And also: there's nothing shameful about driving a garbage truck. It is hard work and someone who does it for a living should be able to live with dignity and reasonable comfort.

Kanban or SETI b/c I am interested and I haven't played them yet.

I just saw "Unsettling Catan" and I was like "oh like a creepy horror version of Catan?"

Yeah like a whole path or just like opportunistically in these sorts of lists where you say "if you like this, a next good step would be X" - maybe you don't do it for every one if there's nothing that jumps out at you, but M'44 to C&CA (etc) was such a nice example.

Idle thought: I liked how you mentioned how Memoir '44 could lead into the Command and Colors series. It would be cool to find other spots to talk about what each game could be an intro too (e.g. Votes for Women->1960->Twilight Struggle

This was great. I love how concise this is. Subbed.

Also my god you look like Rutger Hauer.

Given that you missed the best show ever made: Deadwood.

Except it's "sacrifice the health/youth/life-force of people you don't know".

Always preferred just playing w/paper and folding it over - dry erase pens are imprecise even before they start breaking down. Game is fun though. Have had some sessions where we were laughing so hard we couldn't breathe.

That's funny because I'm almost entirely the opposite. TTRPGs give me anxiety that I'll screw up people's experience. I don't get that at all w/board games.

Not so much that I can't afford this as that I can't afford the multi-million-dollar home I'd need to make a permanently set up version of a B+ game a reasonable decision.

I hope @zaltzcricket.bsky.social is aware of this...

Given you you said "finished" I assume this was done over a number of days. How long did the game take in total?

Given that discord exists I've never been tempted to try video/audio chat on BGA, but I can only imagine.
July 31, 2025 at 2:28 PM
Oh I liked it, I just remembered getting really bogged down in the rules every time it happened. This was 30+ years ago, so the details are, charitably, fuzzy.

I think it works as a prequel where others don't because Cassian is more or less a blank slate. Other than "he lives somehow" he doesn't have any real preconceptions about his character. He could be a hero or an absolute bastard.

Played the crap out of this in high school. The getting money, voting and backstabbing was always super fun. Unfortunately the coups always seemed to slow the game to a crawl.

Age of Steamed Dumplings, surely

...so you just get Lupin III and have him turn his head away:

"Crickard" sounds like a somewhat derogatory term for someone who is a little too into cricket...

But you're not playing Jenga. You are using the physical mechanics of Jenga as a randomizer and tension builder. There is a whole interpretive layer that simply does not exist in Jenga.

If you play Shadowrun and roll 5 dice with some rerolls you are not "playing Yahtzee".

When you are too nakedly corrupt for goddam FIFA...

I read that as "I'm 16 years old and I played the first scenario of CoC 1400" and I was like "Matthew you are not 16 years old".

Usually card games: Race for the Galaxy if everyone knows how to play. No Thanks! and Coloretto and can teach and play a game in <15 minutes. If an actual *board* is required Sky Team is quite quick.
