I think there was a genuine risk of this happening to Kenny (and maybe Okada) just at the point that AEW showed up.

I know you're gonna call me a mark and an E Drone or something, but it's because he's transcended Wrestling. Same way I would argue Austin, and God take mercy on me, Hogan have. Because you can't look past the megastar image.

This is exactly my issue with AEW. They had 2 years planned and booked around their top stars etc. But they forgot to repeat that part when the first 2 years plans ended.

If I could like this more than once I totally would
February 17, 2025 at 3:14 PM
It's a shame there's not a bigger storyline around it (yet) but I'm trying to look at the positives. He's so over right now and his merch sales are wild, it does seem the perfect time to go the next step. We cry out for guys to get elevated so we gotta try and go with it when they are.

There's no debacle. They tried something and didn't work as well as they hoped so they moved to a smaller venue. Lots of companies do this.

Anything produced by Miramax/the Weinstien company, Michael Jackson records, the Rolling Stones, the Catholic Church to name but a few problematic things that are still soundly popular. I'm fine holding TKO to high standards, but it should be the same across the board.

💯

Surely that's like saying Marvels Thor 2 wasn't good and could have been improved, but I don't care because it's still better than all the DC movies? You shouldn't focus on your competitions standards, you should be focused on being the best you can be.

I really don't get the Jarrett thing. Why indulge this retirement tour stuff? It was great with Sting because he's a bona fide legend. Jarrett is a glorified midcarder who's major success came because he booked them himself.

That noise you can hear is Joey Bartons head exploding

Omega and/or Ospreay cost Mox the title to Hobbs

Omega/Ospreay feud with Death Riders for 3/4 months

Hobbs carries the belt for 3/4 months with high quality opponents (Jay White, Hangman etc)

Mox wins back belt from Hobbs promising to be even more extreme this time

Darby returns to dethrone Mox
January 13, 2025 at 6:32 PM
100% this
January 13, 2025 at 6:15 PM
Yeah I'd hate to have been born into enough money to create my own wrestling promotion and fill it with virtually any wrestler I want, then spend my days fantasy booking shows. Must be so incredibly hard.
January 13, 2025 at 5:54 PM
I'm not against it, but i almost feel like Kenny right now has reached that place where he doesn't need the belt. He's so over and anything he does is such an event now, that it doesn't need the belt to elevate it.
January 12, 2025 at 1:06 AM
I'm talking myself into the idea of Hobbs beating Mox for the title. Say Kenny and/or Osprey interferes to cost Mox the belt, you can have Death Riders pivot to feuding with them and have Hobbs defend in fresh match ups. Mox can even win it back in the summer and pick the Darby story up again.

Brain is probably my all time favourite, but Gary Hart was incredible and still underrated
January 11, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Even when he's doing goofy stuff, he carries himself as a star. He just exudes that aura.
January 7, 2025 at 1:50 PM
I think he did book him poorly. He moved him to the side and didn't capitalise on his momentum.

Again not saying Wardlow deserved such a push, but they'd already done the hard work. Tony moved on to other projects, which is his perogative.
January 6, 2025 at 7:35 PM
My original point was that Tony and by extension AEW has a problem following through when they have a hot property. I gave the examples of Hangman, Wardlow and the Acclaimed. So I'm not moving to some irrelevant topic you condescending twat.
January 6, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Park Wardlow for a minute and look at Hangman. One of, if not the best storyline in decades. Then there is no tangible follow up storyline. He bounced around a few mini feuds until he dropped the belt. Are we saying after that arc, he had no more ideas? Or that Tony had moved on to someone else?
January 6, 2025 at 7:26 PM
You can't blame it all on Wardlow though, the same as I'm not blaming it all on AEW. Wardlow, and all talent, have to take responsibility for all or part of their creative. BUT, if Tony doesn't book you strongly, doesn't use your ideas, doesn't push you whe your hot, then how can you stay over?
January 6, 2025 at 7:22 PM
Ok, so to be clear, Tony Khan has no input to creative? He doesn't work on storylines, just books matches.

So Hangmans arc, one of the best storylines anywhere in the last 30 years, was purely down to Hangman writing his own stuff with Kenny, Dark Order etc?

I'm reading it, I just don't agree with you. And you're being a dick
January 6, 2025 at 6:59 PM
And from a fan experience pov, if you've invested in a guy over a storyline, you don't want him to just disappear. You want him to go on and do more. You want to see more of the guy you've invested your time and support in. This is where AEW falls down IMO.
