Because it was never *their* skill. They didn’t hone their skills. At best they edited images generated from a prompt. That’s management, not craft.

I’ve seen Silksong compared a lot to Dark Souls 2, but maybe it’s fairer to compare Silksong to Bloodborne.

I did my best to create a very loose silhouette sheet based on the original Toa Mata (which seems to be what the discussion is centering on). I felt it was disingenuous to say "these guys have bad silhouettes", not show the silhouettes, and then show a photo of every character overlapping.

I feel like the quality of the silhouettes ebbs and flows over the series, but the original Toa Mata have relatively decent silhouettes imo. The shapes could have been pushed farther, but if you had a pure black and white ref sheet like the one above this, I’d still be able to tell you who was who.

On the topic of software limitations, here’s a video of Santa Claus being drawn in MS Paint. I use Paint occasionally to draft compositions these days (limitation breeds creativity), but I also still draw on printer paper with mechanical pencils

As far as I understand, the sprites and the art were made simultaneously by two different people, which is why Terra’s hair is both green (sprite) and blonde (art). I assume the same goes for Sabin’s beard.

I love My Love Story! The anime covers most of the story, but the manga has a bit more (anime covers chapters 1-35, chapter 36-50 is manga exclusive)

“I don’t know what anime artists have against noses” If I had to draw 18 pages a week or 12 frames of animation per second, I’d probably want to draw in a style that abstracted the nose too
