I heard it's because watts are confusingly used for brightness of lightbulbs so the energy consumption of LEDs is written differently. A 100 watt equivalent led bulb might only draw 13W, so to separate these we get kWh/1000h

kWh are about 3.6 MJ if I recall correctly. So that would be a fine unit.

The thing that really bugs me is the EU labels that give kWh/1000h. That's just straight up watts. WHY are you writing it that way.
