Sure, that’s a sign of a bad or inexperienced GM.

However I don’t see the connection between the two arguments. You can have a good GM that rewards player ingenuity in both a sandbox style or narrative game.

Preferring one over the other doesn’t make a person good or bad at the game.

I think sandbox is useful as a descriptor for what the GM or player expectations are so that like minded people can find each other.

I can’t wait! I’m hoping for a bridge between classic tabletop war games and ttrpgs. This seems ideal and a good compliment to less crunchy or more narratively driven games.
