SB 131 exempts highly polluting industries from environmental review and mitigation. It will have a devastating impact if the bill is not immediately fixed.

Contact state leaders Sen. McGuire and Assembly Speaker Rivas now to demand they #FixSB131 and protect our communities from toxic pollution.

On June 30, the Legislature passed, and the Governor signed SB 131 – a sweeping CEQA rollback that threatens wildlife, biodiversity, and community health.

Lawmakers vowed to fix SB 131 before the end of the legislative session, but their time to do so is running out.

200+ groups are calling on legislators to fix SB 131.

This bill’s CEQA exemption for “advanced manufacturing” could greenlight toxic projects near homes and schools without environmental review. It also leaves endangered species habitats unprotected.

Toxic industries shouldn’t get a free pass. SB 131’s exemption for “advanced manufacturing” threatens groundwater & public health, especially in communities already burdened by pollution. Lawmakers must fix this. Read more from Deja McCauley via Maven’s Notebook.

When democratic systems fail us, CEQA holds the line and makes sure both nature and people remain protected.

CEQA is environmental democracy in action.

It’s how Californians stay informed, ask questions, and push for better outcomes in their own backyards.
May 30, 2025 at 8:02 PM
CEQA has always empowered low-income and BIPOC communities to fight environmental injustice.

CEQA gives Californians a voice when federal agencies won’t. Let’s keep CEQA strong.

Thank you, Pro Tem McGuire and Chair Caballero, for bringing SB 607 back to the drawing board.

In a time of federal rollbacks, California must uphold strong environmental protections. Progress shouldn't come at the cost of our communities or ecosystems. We appreciate your leadership.

Newhall Ranch was set to be a massive high-emission sprawl development, but CEQA was leveraged to encourage the developer to achieve “Net Zero Emissions” for the project. When CEQA is enforced, we all win.

In Lake County, a judge blocked a 16,000-acre luxury resort for failing to address wildfire danger.

California’s fire risk is growing and CEQA ensures developments don’t take shortcuts when it comes to public safety.

Trump’s rollbacks have gutted NEPA. Now, CEQA is California’s last line of defense.

It gives the public power to review & challenge projects that threaten our air, water, wildlife, and communities. Let’s keep CEQA strong.
May 19, 2025 at 8:01 PM
CEQA is California’s last line of defense against the federal rollback of climate and environmental safeguards. If the federal government won’t protect our environment, we will.
May 16, 2025 at 4:08 PM
As federal environmental protections are rolled back and agencies are led by fossil fuel allies, CEQA becomes California’s frontline defense against unchecked industrial exploitation.
May 14, 2025 at 4:06 PM
The “Unleashing American Energy” order tells agencies to prioritize “efficiency” over the environment. But what does this really mean for our environment and public health?
May 12, 2025 at 4:10 PM
Nearly 1M Californians rely on water systems that fail to meet safety standards. CEQA is one of the last tools we have to protect clean water in California, especially as Trump guts federal protections.

Let’s keep CEQA strong to secure clean, reliable water for everyone.

Over 130 organizations oppose SB 607 because it weakens CEQA’s core protections and guts the public’s right to environmental review. Let’s reject SB 607 now.
May 5, 2025 at 4:06 PM
SB 607 weakens CEQA for all projects, not just housing. It replaces 50+ years of environmental law with a framework that benefits developers, not communities. Join the fight to stop it.
May 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
SB 607 seeks to gut the heart of CEQA, the Environmental Impact Report. It’s the very tool that alerts us to irreversible harm. With federal laws under attack, CA lawmakers must keep CEQA strong.
April 30, 2025 at 4:07 PM
California’s climate future is on the line. SB 607 guts our strongest climate protection tool. Now is the time to strengthen CEQA, not weaken it.

Action alert: urge your Senators to VOTE NO ON #SB607, which would help developers fast-track projects without community oversight or common-sense safety checks like EIRs.

Our communities aren’t toxic dumping grounds. And CA has an actual housing crisis that needs REAL solutions.
