Fact checking for newspapers is so bad sometimes. Of the dates listed from an article in the Gainesville Sun today (a Gannett newspaper), they say 8 of the last 9 inaugurations also coincided with the MLK holiday. This could not be further from the truth.
Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day occur on the same date more often than you may think. Inauguration Day occurs every four years on Jan. 20 (or Jan. 21 if the 20th falls on a Sunday), according to USA.gov. Martin Luther King Jr. Day became a federal holiday in 1983, and was first observed on Jan. 20, 1986. It's observed on the third Monday in January, which is around King's actual birthday on Jan. 15. Since MLK Day became a federal holiday, there have been nine presidential inaugurations. Eight of the occasions have been on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, according to HistoryinPieces. George Bush: Jan. 20, 1989 William J. Clinton: Jan. 20, 1993, Jan. 20, 1997 George W. Bush: Jan. 20, 2001, Jan. 20, 2005 Barack Obama: Jan. 20, 2009, Jan. 21, 2013 Donald J. Trump: Jan. 20, 2017 Joe Biden: Jan. 20, 2021 Just like his first inauguration in 2017, Trump's 2025 inauguration will fall on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

As a father, I feel good about how my wife and I raised our children when they can take this disappointing election result and react so maturely and with care and compassion. My daughter posted this to FB this am #proudfather #dadslife
I don’t tend to use social media much, but I wanted to share some of my thoughts. When I woke up yesterday morning I was terrified to check my phone and see if what I feared had come to pass, and it did. I was flooded with a lot of emotions and desperately hoped that it must be wrong. Wished that if a felon couldn’t vote they surely couldn’t hold the highest position in this country. I also sat with myself and had a lot of thoughts and while I am terrified for what the next four years have to bring, I also found myself sad at what this country has become. The past couple of days have shown me that we have become a country of hate, animosity, and fear more than anything else. With everything that has happened, two of my friends wore all black yesterday in mourning and they are right, there is much to mourn. I mourn for my future and hope my rights aren’t stripped away more than they already have been. I mourn for a country that was supposed to welcome all and be a safe place to live. I mourn for the hope that my mom so adamantly had that we were better than this. While there is time to mourn we must also stand together. Now more than ever we must support and be there for one another. We need to continue to stand up for our beliefs, even if we don’t feel like we’re making progress, because if we give up nothing will change and those who need the representation and support will fall away into the shadows of society. I still choose to cling onto whatever hope I can because as long as we keep fighting for our beliefs and spreading science and supporting each other we cannot be wholly repressed. If anyone needs help or support I am a safe space and will do whatever I can to help.
