Thoughts on politics, culture and military from a Canadian perspective living in the UK. Stickhandling from the centre.
Briefly went over to the other site, bombarded with bots and right wing conservative Canadians whining about Carney. I believe that Canada needs the Conservative party to get off the US right train. Return to a common sense version of itself one that acts as check on the left spending urges.

Canada lives because of the UK. The British defended Canada from the USA on two occasions. We then helped to defend them when they went to war in the last century. Wars which allowed the USA to become the superpower they are thanks to not going into massive debt to fund them.

Prime Minister Carney. If you think anything the US government "commits" to they will change their mind even after signing trade deals so why wait for them to screw us over. CUSMA is likely dead. We need to stand up for allies in more than just words.

I think it might be time to talk about a combine Canadian, EU military winter training base... in Greenland. You know... just in case. Before the Brute squad gets anymore ideas.

Honestly I do not understand why all the right of centre Canadian commentators are giving the orange one any sort of 4D chess move.

He is a child. Of course he is going to do the dumbest thing and claim victory.

If the US congress over the next year does not create articles of impeachment for this insane crap show of a government what will it take? Put your partisan views aside. We do not need gunboat diplomacy from a government like it was 1910 not 2026. Especially from the most powerful nation on earth.
January 4, 2026 at 7:00 PM
If the US actually spent any of the pointless time, effort, and money on helping Ukraine rather than trying to destabilize Greenland, pressure Canada and assault Venezuela maybe this war they want over would actually be... you know... over.

Also, it is always oil with these guys.

The role of the monarchy is still important. The ceremonial role they fill mattered a great deal to Canada this year. I firmly believe if it can modernize away from its worst habits it can swing with the times.

Can Prince William's 'ordinary Joe' approach win the monarchy more support?
Polls suggest public approval for the monarchy has declined, which raises the question of what King Charles and Prince William could do to win back more support for the institution.

The Alberta government continues to play with the third rail of politics (as Ralph Klein used to call Health care reforms). I think this will do nothing but create a two tiered system that will incent doctors to push people to private hours.

Smith details Alberta plans to open door for doctors to work publicly and privately
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is offering details of her government’s plan to introduce legislation to let doctors choose to work in the public and private health systems simultaneously.

The day this man is gone from my country cannot come soon enough. He is a big buffoon who is just a Trump lacky and nothing more:

Fascinating to watch the Canadian right think tanks lose their minds over things that have zero meaning or are straight up election losing concepts.

A little nationalism is good for us, along with diversifying our trade away from relying on an unreliable partner.

Hmm apparently President Reagan like International cooperation and negotiation. Including the desire of a Free and Fair Trade that was the lifeblood of Europe.

Because it annoys the orangeman that he cannot wash this away. Reagan spoke truth and he doesn't like it. Remember when GOP loved free trade.

One thing you really should know by now, but most Americans will not want to discuss. Gun control. There are too many people with access to guns in the United States. And no amount of reality seems to change that discussion because their is too much money invested in protecting them.

This is a study in officials being given way too much power to enforce. Ridiculous. Man should sue and the Canadian government should raise this as a diplomatic incident.

One thing we are learning about version 2 of Star Ship... it is a mess. This does not bode well for Space X if they cannot even make this version get past performance that the Version 1 did after a couple of failures. (reentry and landing)

Rapid iteration should be getting better not worse no?

Any American cheering that the US government agreed to a 55% tariff on Chinese goods really are like lottery ticket buyers.

They are paying a tax on the stupid. IF the previous tariff was 40% (not sure if the number is fully accurate but hold with me) then you have decided to pay a 15% tax.

Said it before will say it again, a third middle ground party in the USA that was fiscally conscious and socially liberal that could allow the blue Republicans and never trumpers to have a home would likely benefit America greatly. As it would deflate the MAGA vote.

While fighting this if I was Harvard, I would consider opening up either an affiliate location in Canada or Europe and offer seating for international students who have been accepted so they can offer programs and still fight maga at every step.
