What if we focused on ensuring families always have good holiday seasons—not just this one? At CFE, we drive systemic change through peer-led research, legal action, and advocacy that addresses root causes of inequality. This Giving Tuesday, help us build a future where no family is left behind.

Congratulations to First Call BC on the 2025 Child Poverty Report Card. This year’s takeaway: lone-mother–led families continue to face the steepest barriers. Universal $10-a-Day child care and fair employment policies can help break the cycle. www.centreforequity.ca/lonemotherse...

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. CFE supports survivors of gender-based violence navigating BC's family law system through our charter challenge work and Healing Forward program, advocating for fair, responsive legal aid and mental health support.

The Families Getting Active report from @bchealthyliving.bsky found that administrative red tape keeps many low-income families from signing kids up for sports. CFE urges the Province to streamline access to subsidies and supports so every child can access healthy activities.

The Families Getting Active Report from @bchealthyliving.bsky.social is out! Congratulations on a comprehensive, community-driven report. CFE was proud to partner with BC Alliance for Healthy Living to engage low-income parents and caregivers across BC.

CFE’s Listening Campaign 2025 found that low-income families are delaying or skipping vital health and mental health care because they can’t afford out-of-pocket costs. Gaps in our public system are hurting their health, finances, and quality of life.

Gaps in our public health system make life even harder for families living in poverty. When care is unaffordable or delayed, it affects parents’ ability to work and care for their kids. That’s why one of our new areas of focus is Health Equity.

This Invisible Disability Awareness Week, we're amplifying parents' voices. As one CFE member shared: “Finding work I can sustain with my disabilities has been the biggest challenge.” Too many must choose between their health and supporting their families.
October 23, 2025 at 1:45 PM
Invisible disabilities—like chronic pain or mental illness—make it harder for parents to access stable work and housing in systems not built for them. Many of our BC members live with these challenges and lead our work for disability justice.

In 1929, women were finally recognized as “persons” in Canada—but many, including Indigenous and racialized women, were excluded. Equity is still a fight. At CFE, we work to ensure all parents and caregivers, of all genders, have the rights and supports to thrive.

It’s World Mental Health Day. 1 in 5 British Columbians will face mental health or substance use challenges this year. CFE’s Mental Health Matters campaign calls for fully-covered counselling—with at least 24 hours per year for low-income individuals—to make mental health care truly equitable.
October 10, 2025 at 1:07 PM
Mental health is health. Counselling should be covered by MSP. Right now, families in poverty go without care. CFE calls for 24 hours/year of MSP-covered counselling for low-income folks. Let’s make mental health care equitable.
