As wildlife photographers our goal is to capture images of these birds in nature, but as birders with backgrounds in biology and psychology we are keenly interested in the character and behavior of the species we photograph.

The Pyrrhuloxia, sometimes referred to as the “Desert Cardinal” is found in desert scrub habitat of the southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico). As their appearance suggests, they are closely related to the Northern Cardinal.
