In a time when public discourse feels increasingly divided, debate teaches students to listen, research, speak with evidence, and disagree respectfully. These are exactly the kinds of skills our community—and our country—needs most right now.

Your gift supports:
– Housing & travel for students who qualify for major tournaments
– Technology upkeep for research & competition
– The continued growth of a program that empowers young people to find their voice

Now, as the year comes to a close, we’re still working to cover remaining travel expenses, especially housing costs from our State trip, and prepare for next year’s season. We’ve extended the fundraiser deadline in hopes that we can rally our community one last time.

But with that growth came costs. Our budget was stretched thin to provide every student the opportunity to compete, travel, and grow — and we overspent to make it happen.

This year, Central Debate grew bigger and better than ever — with a dozen students qualifying for the State Tournament and placing 2nd in Wisconsin in both Varsity and Novice Policy Debate.

Debate has been around at debate for over 100 years--it's the oldest still-active student group at a very old school! And we're still going strong. Central debaters finished 2nd at the Wisconsin State Debate Tournament in both varsity and novice policy debate in 2025!

In a world that needs more reasoned, respectful, and evidence-based dialogue, debate matters. Debate can get a bad rap, but we're committed to a racially- and gender-diverse team that's a welcoming community. No debate-me-bros here.
