I hate the fact that people are so obviously using chat bots to write item descriptions for their eBay listings.

Anyone who’s spent enough time in the model railroading hobby will tell you that advertising Rapido couplers and no lighting are elements that you don’t want to draw attention to.

The people falling for his obvious ragebait were getting to be just as annoying as himself

Let me just say that as a gundam fan, the Aggjin from Moon Gundam is a seriously slept on MS design

I also love how it looks like the gargantuas from Half-Life. If we ever get an HGUC Aggjin someday, I’d love to do a gargantua-inspired Aggjin custom w flamethrowers instead of the claw and missiles.

Keeping with the theme of discussing Thomas and Friends from yesterday, I should mention that if Thomas ever gets another reboot someday, I would jump for joy if Mattel approached Aardman to produce it.

Since they’re already working with the studio to produce a Pingu reboot, I feel like it isn’t…

I’m also gonna play devils advocate here when I say this, but I also really like the idea of a Thomas and Friends production with a squash and stretch artstyle!

As someone who grew up with Bill Peet’s books as a kid, I definitely have a soft spot for more cartoony depictions of trains. I wouldn’t…

Hell, toy trains operating on picturesque layout sets was one of the draws for I Love Toy Trains, another train-related series for kids that still has a huge following from young and old train fans nowadays.

What made the original series so captivating to younger audiences was the immaculate set design that made Sodor feel picturesque, yet one that children could connect with, like it was a real place they too could travel to.

While the CGI era of the series couldn’t recreate that appeal as much, the…

Ultimately, I think that All Engines Go was a wrong place at the wrong time kind of deal.

The CGI series was building up to a lot of plot elements for the future (Thomas going to Japan, the Earl’s Railway Museum, etc) and all of that was yanked away from viewers and replaced with a show that…

[another thread]

Speaking of Thomas and Friends, I also heard that the recent All Engines Go reboot has ended.

While I’ll always prefer the original show at the end of the day, I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a bit sad that the show didn’t have the same kind of success the original show had.

What really surprised me and likely a lot of other viewers was the fact that Ringo had narrated the pilot!

Given things that the production crew have said, I was under the impression that a temporary narrator was brought in, so seeing that Ringo was brought in this early on in the show’s…

Back to the Down the Mine pilot, let me just say that the effect of the sinkhole forming underneath the tracks before Thomas falling into it was done really well and it felt like an effect that would be in seasons 3 or 5 of the show.

…other pieces of lost Thomas media like the Hullo Twins/The Missing Coach footage being released.
May 12, 2025 at 1:25 PM
…a triumph for Thomas and Friends as a franchise, its fans both young and old, and the franchise’s caretakers.

I’m kinda sad that not all the footage could be saved, as I was hoping to finally see footage of this screencap that leaked a while back. That said, when you’re dealing with film reels…

I know I am late to the party when it comes to this topic, but I thought I would share my thoughts on the Thomas and Friends pilot that was finally released to the public last Friday.

Continuing on the topic of model train nostalgia that I started a few weeks ago, another part of the hobby that I’m nostalgic for that could still be a good entry point for the hobby are those promotional HO scale train sets from the 90s and early-to-mid 2000s

As someone who is building his own model train layout, I’ve been feeling kinda nostalgic for the model train layouts that people featured in their YouTube videos back in 2006-2007

I know Bachmann can be a divisive company amongst model train people, and my opinions on them have been split too, but I think we should at least give them credit for making steam engine models that you’d see on short lines and I appreciate them for filling that niche
March 5, 2025 at 8:34 PM
Bachmann’s actually working on an n scale ten wheeler that I think you could kitbash into Sierra RR #3 but it’s a bit of a stretch

You’d think Rapido would would show some interest considering that they like to make prototypes of engines represented in popular culture

Truth be told, everyone collectively gaslighting Gwimbly as an actual video game for a whole month after that one Smiling Friends episode came out is the closest the internet has come to achieving true piece in a VERY long time.

To me, Northlandz is easily /the/ spiritual successor to John Allen’s Gorre and Daphetid Railroad.

While the G&D is long gone at this point, I’m glad Northlandz still has amazing vistas and set pieces that harken back to John Allen’s masterpiece of a layout
February 6, 2025 at 6:13 PM
Ngl as I grow older, the more I appreciate Northlandz and the fact that it’s still open to the public.
