The Rod Rust year was my first season following the Pats week to week. IIRC, the only home game on TV that year was the season finale when a ton of Giants fans bought tickets.

Slightly different, but about a dozen years ago when I lived in DC, I saw RA Dickey hopping on a metro train to head towards Nats Park. It impressed me that he was just riding public transit like a normal guy.
