I bought 3 meters of this delicious fabric.
A bolt of blue and white fabric, the flowers are white outlines on a blue background. I saw it a month ago & have been thinking about it ever since.

Delightful! We were sorting & pricing donated cloth for a sale we are having in December.

I bought some, to replace a jacket I lost 3 years ago. Isn't this pretty?
A bolt of dark blue fabric with white flower outlines printed on it rests on 2 other bolts of the same fabric in black and a lighter blue colorways. The fabric is thick, I think it is cotton. Every person who passed it by reached out to stroke it.

On the original piece the bottom trim's pleats continue on to the inside of the garment. I am fascinated by this, I haven't seen this type of trim before.
Front & back images of a recreation of a Chinese robe which was discovered in a burial at Niya, western China. The robe is large, a cream color with beige sleeves and a dark coral pink trim, the bottom of which is heavily pleated. On the original piece the bottom trim's pleats continue on to the inside of the garment. I am fascinated by this, I haven't seen this type of trim before.

So we had last Christmas back with our kiddos, and they have all the ornaments I made for Christmas 2022-3.

I have to go to IKEA & get a smaller tree for this year. This was last year's.
A small artificial Christmas tree, in the corner of a white-walled wooden-floored room, festooned with red baubles, assorted handmade ornaments, candy canes, & white lights. Red packages wait underneath. For years our Christmas was multicolored lights & my grandmother's handmade sequined felt ornaments. My pinterest was full of this sort of look, so when I had to start again I went with it.

In honor of our new country, I made a moose head. It was fiddly, I think I will only make this one.

In 2022, a flood took my grandmother's handmade Christmas decorations away from us. I made more. We moved and left the new ones with my sons. So again, I am making more.

Today's project was to turn take out trays into shiny things to hang on the tree, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
On a wooden table rests a flattened, cut apart foil take out tray. In front of it is a Canadian maple leaf made of part of the tray, as well as the template I used to make it. I am quite pleased with how this turned out, and think they will look quite nice on hanging on the Christmas tree. On a wooden table rest three foil Christmas decorations, a bird, a ball, and some sort of fancy hanging thing. They were made from one of the take out trays my husband brought home a few weeks ago, and then cleaned for me.

This was the members sale, but Saturday it will be open to the public. There are some amazing quilts, and still a lot of cloth. There's TWO Moroccan burnouses and a sheaf of kimonos, as well as some racks of vintage clothing.

I have worked my first in person event as a volunteer after 2 years of not, and 1) my feet hurt 2) my cheeks hurt from smiling 3) I am definitely not leaving the house tomorrow.

I brought home a slightly damaged silk sari from the sale, even if only half of it is usable that's still 3 meters.
A mostly green and yellow ikat sari lies nestled in a brown paper bag. There is some gold on the darker purple border, which is partly showing. I am DELIGHTED with it, it has a few damaged spots but it is still a LOT of cloth.

Another fan had designed a lace shawl to commemorate the coming book, so I made it for her. Someone had added beads to theirs, and graciously sent me their notes. I had to learn 3 new skills to make it, it had been a decade since I had last made lace.

My husband found out I have never had a club sandwich.

I have finished basting inside the front reverse applique shapes, and am now almost done cutting out the shapes for the back. There is a huge amount of fabric in the back of this shirt, I love the way it swings.
A blue tshirt front pattern piece is laid out on paper, turquoise basting holds the mint green underlay in place within seaweed shapes. I will hand stitch around each shape and cut out the overlay once I remove the basting. A blue shirt back pattern piece is laid out on a table with paper underneath part of it. It is covered in paper seaweed and fish shapes. I am cutting the paper shapes out in a mint green fabric, and will sew them on. There is a post it on the table, as well as a pair of glasses and a book. 2 armchairs are tucked into the table at the top of the picture.

I've cut out the shirt, now on to figuring out applique placement. I will have to piece the underlay.

This is the pattern I will be using, I first made the coat & shirt in Egypt, in 1996.
A voluminous, drapey coat made of black linen hangs on a wooden hanger against a brown wooden door. I made & wore this in Cairo when we were there in 1996. The color said abya, the cut did not, so I was very happy with it. I used Vogue 1476 to make this. This is Vogue 1476 designed by Issey Miyake. It is for a draped coat, high necked shirt, and a loose pant with large pockets. The model is wearing the coat over the pants, the drawn model is wearing the shirt tucked into the pants, which is frankly almost impossible to do in real life due to the huge volume of fabric in the back. Which is probably why it is a drawing. This pattern was Vogue's longest running pattern ever, they carried it for multiple decades.

I am going to be using Vogue 1476 by Issey Miyake, using it as a tshirt. I have made this shirt at least 8 times, and adore it. Here is the front & back of the first version I made in 2020 during the first Covid lockdown using a bunch of volunteer tshirts.
A white tshirt, hanging against a brown door. The tshirt is loose and large, I used 4 heavy FIRST Robotics volunteer tshirts to make it. There is a pleated insert on the right front where I cut out the logo and used this to fill the hole. I made this during the first Covid lockdown in 2020, and have worn this so much that it has begun to dissolve. A tshirt hangs from a wooden hanger in front of a wooden door, this is the back. There is an insert of a black & white picture I had printed on a different tshirt by Artscow, which is no longer in business. The picture is from 1865 of a Japanese dentist, before he became a dentist & was a moody youth. His hair is tied up in a sloppy knot and he is wearing traditional clothing with a knitted muffler and an intense stare. He looks Amazing and I loved having him have my back.

In 2024 I saw an exhibit at the St. Louis Art museum which included this piece by Matisse. I am starting a shirt based on it.

I have cut out some of the shapes, and will be working with 2 fabrics, a blue & a light turquoise. I thought I might use the one with the print, but not for this.
A large dark beige canvas wall covering with various seaweed and marine life shapes stenciled on to it. This was created by Matisse who stenciled paper cutouts on his own walls, and is called Oceania, the Sky. Oceania, the Sea was on the adjoining wall, but is not pictured here. I took SO many pictures of these two pieces, they were astonishing. Three fabrics draped over the back of a chair, so I could get a good look at them in natural light. Two are solid, a mid blue and a soft turquoise, the third has a print of waterlilies on it. The blue is yardage, and the turquoise is 2 volunteer tshirts from Geekway to the West in 2021. I will use the blue as a base, and then do applique and reverse applique of the Matisse shapes.

Happiness is finding out that you borked the calendar and your husband is coming home 3 days earlier than you thought.

Right now he is in England where it is cooler and is sending me pictures of his breakfast because he is secretly a hobbit.
A classic English breakfast, which is making my husband completely happy: on a white plate rest grilled tomatoes, a potato patty, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, baked beans, and 2 runny eggs.

I have finished my spring coat or duster, and now comes the fun part of sewing 220 small bits of green silk ribbon to a tape as part of a removable inner fringe.

I am actually looking forward to this bit.

Today I finally dug out the green silk ribbons to add to my project bag for the coat I'm working on. I have been thinking about them since I first decided to make this.

The dandelion pin I made last month, after seeing one on Pinterest. My brain came to a screeching halt until it was done.
On a wooden table top rests a heap of apple-green silk ribbon pieces that I will use to make an inner fringe for the hem of my spring coat, a longer piece of paler green ribbon with leaves that will go on the inner cuff of the sleeves of said coat, and some large, white mother-of-pearl buttons with engraved circle rims which will go down the front. A beaded dandelion pin, yellow & green beads from my grandmother's stash, which she gave me in the mid-80s. It took me 4 tries for each part, I tried to learn peyote stitch for the stem but it wasn't that successful.

Those Oui yogurt jars are amazing for this. You can even buy caps for them.

When my children were younger we used to be able to get jam jars that were designed to be reused as glasses.

I got ahead of things in February! I spent a year knitting these while watching my littles, 3 years wearing them out, and not fixing them for a long time. Finally patched them, so glad to have them back. Thanks for telling me about this challenge, it got me motivated.
A pair of yellow and blue Scandinavian style mittens, clean and with applied patches as well as reknitted & over-embroidered holes on a countertop. The pattern is of blue vines, leaves, & flowers on a yellow background. One of the delights of the modern era is that someone I do not know launched a challenge online which prompted me to patch these mittens that had been languishing for over a decade. A pair of yellow and blue Scandinavian style mittens on a wooden table. The pattern is of blue vines & leaves. Scissors hold back the thumbs, which are have holes from wear, as well as the tips of the palm. The mittens need a bath, badly. These are one of my favorite things I have made, so pretty.
