The current trend in our Discord server is to use Celestia's MultiView feature and disable the frame outlines to create unique screenshots. MessisUniverse took this screenshot of Saturn's major moons, for example

#OnThisDay 24 years ago, @claurel.bsky.social released Celestia to the public

Bluesky now has DM capabilities, so we've set ours to be open to everyone. If you have a bug report, feature request, question about the program, or maybe even an idea for a post, just message us!

Some of our Discord server members were able to spot the aurorae that occurred as a result of the solar storm a few days ago!

Did you manage to snap a few pictures?

Lux has made some more nebulae models, these four here are nearby H II regions! Can you name them all?

This is Earth. Our pale blue dot

On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives

This #EarthDay, we are again reminded of our planet's fragility, and our responsibility to cherish it, care for it, and protect it

Did you know you can change Celestia's display font? Simply place the font you want to use into the fonts folder (in this example I used Futura), and edit the celestia.cfg file to make it use your font

It's worth noting that some fonts may not support certain characters

Lux, the creator of a few cinematic Celestia videos on YouTube, is talented in more ways than just videography, as they also make gorgeous nebulae models!
These ones here will soon be available for download as add-ons, I'll post the link once that happens

Celestia will soon be available for the Apple Vision Pro. If you have access to a Vision Pro device, you can try the beta here

So we've got another graphical overhaul in the works. This time we're making the star glow more realistic by simulating proper limb darkening. It's not very realistic just yet but hopefully that will change. We'll notify you if we ever need people to test it

It's Christmas so we thought we'd surprise you with something. We're experimenting with 3D terrain. Yep, 3D terrain like you'd see in SpaceEngine
It's by no means complete and probably won't be for a while. Keep an eye on our account so you'll know if we ever need people to test it

Stars in Celestia aren't just textured, coloured balls with a glow, and nebulae aren't just 2D "billboard" models. They can look a lot prettier, and a lot trippier...
November 15, 2023 at 1:25 AM
There's not really been much major development lately, mainly just refactoring parts of the code and fixing a weird bug with planetary rings. Though we are working on further refining our translations, so non-English speakers can enjoy using Celestia in their first language!

Just a little update on this...

Askaniy has further optimized and improved the code, and our lead developer is attempting to convert the Python code into GLSL so it can be tested in Celestia itself. The updated information and code is still available in this GitHub issue

Celestia's star rendering doesn't model the difference in brightness accurately, which became more apparent with gamma correction. To address this, one of our community members, Askaniy, created a new rendering algorithm
If you're interested, you can read more into his work here

We've got an Instragram account now, go follow us on there if you're interested

We're currently experimenting with sRGB/gamma-corrected rendering. You can download this test build from here, and report any issues you find here. Our team would greatly appreciate this, as it helps us make the program better
