world buildings!

and also crafting weird things that are mysterious. Cosmic Horror is not just about scary, its about mysterious and incomperehensible. And those things are so fun to craft!

strictly dividing these elements into "need to be seperate at all costs" genres is detrimental to the entire experience, at least to people like me.

i generally think either too low and too high stakes is kinda.... bad?

idk, i think i'm jusnt rambling. sorry ;qq;

yet, and I say this with the original post in mind: what is imo quite cozy is the moment of rest during more gritty games. I still prefer Fallout 4 over Animal Crossing despite doing the exact same in both games: build and decorate villages and make things pretty

Its just, in FO4 it seems to matter

idk, animal crossing is probably more considered the template for this genre, but even if not, stardew valley is one of the least cozy, most stressfull games i ever played.

you cant even get a second to rest even a moment. how is that cozy?

you can still understand and relate to the emotion being depicted in the character’s expression as it represents a sapient (albeit fictional) being, but the creature is far enough away from your lived experience that you understand on an innate level that it is incapable of harming or judging you

like it takes mental and emotional stamina to perceive and interpret all the semiotic signals a human facial expression contains on top of the primal chemical reaction to feeling that you’re being looked at by another person. A cartoon animal feels safer tho bc its under more layers of abstraction

this is so... weird, yet so completely unsurprising, especially with DHL lol
