Now that most of the leaves have fallen from the trees, it's easier to spot some of our lovely local bird species. Ranger Martin got this photo of a Long-tailed Tit while patrolling near Jacksons' Brickworks LNR. Find out more about this species via the @rspb.bsky.social - https://bit.ly/4rbYlbg

It’s that time of year again when the leaf blowers come out. Ranger Cal does find she gets lots of amused looks & comments whilst leaf blowing, but if we don’t clear the leaves off the paths, in the wooded areas, they rot down into leaf mould leaving a muddy path rather than a nice hard surfaced one

Ranger's Martin & Roger, plus volunteers Derek & Mike, spent Wednesday last week on some of the planned winter work jobs at Tegg's Nose Country Park. This was a mixture of scrub cutting, as part of heathland management & also coppicing to improve views from the main car park.

Ranger Cal and volunteers have been cutting back trees, that were encroaching onto the nationally important grassland on Dane-in-Shaw Pasture SSSI, recently. One of the pastures residents stopped by at the end of the day to inspect their work 🐮

Big thanks to the 2 Brereton Heath LNR 'regulars' who found this poor little hedgehog in a rather unhappy state on one of the paths recently. The fact it was out in the open, in daylight, suggests things aren't quite right! The little character was taken to a wildlife rescue centre for some help.

Bollin Valley Ranger Emma & some brilliant corporate volunteers recently completed a new wetland scrape at The Carrs in Wilmslow. This was a part of a funded grant scheme through our friends at the Mersey Rivers Trust. We have already seen plenty of frogs, toads and dragonflies checking them out!🐸
