Agreed. For better learning, I think the model needs to be trained in pedagogy and the module content. Integration with the curriculum, or at least teaching practice is the key. That said, when used properly, even free models can provide needed learning support, esp in high enrolment classes.

@kjhaxton.com this is a good question. What's intelligence? Can a machine that's epistemologically indifferent--GenAI being a sophisticated prediction machine--utter something that truly meaningful? #LTHEchat @nurun.bsky.social

A5 #LTHEChat @nurun.bsky.social. I find that many UGs need to 1st understand learning isn't just about facts, but knowledge co-creation & where dialogic learning comes in in this process. Also prob how to discuss. Some may even need to be convinced that sharing will not hurt their grades.

@nurun.bsky.social very much so. Many novice learners (are pressured to?) feel learning should be easy and quick. It's the opposite.

A1 #LTHEChat @nurun.bsky.social dialogic learning is where discussion between students plays an important and prominent role. This can happen synchronously and asynchronously. The purpose is to 'figure' things out together, and be able to question and make reasoned arguments.

@drkristandl.bsky.social Absolutely. I don't think we ask why students 'cheat' enough. Also, if an assignment is that easily done satisfactorily by AI, maybe it's the assignment that needs to change.

@saraheaton.bsky.social A5 I see AI literacy as part of digital literacy. Info literacy and digital literacy overlap each other in a Venn diagramme. Not all info are digital and digital literacy encompass other aspects, e.g. wellbeing, that's not necessarily related to information. #LTHEChat

Q5 #LTHEChat, I think we need an aligned approach. Each institution needs to have a centrally provisioned 'lesson' that all students should take, then the skills and content need to be reinforced in all modules.

We need to rethink learning goals, ways of learning/knowing, what's academic integrity. And All these need to be supported by training resources so that ppl understands why. (2/2, A4 #LTHEChat)

A3. We need to agree on what needs to be attributed for which type of work. An essay for a language course where students are acquiring language skills will have different requirements from a journal article submission. The key is identifying where human creativity & responsibility is key. #LTHEChat
