It's crazy how big of stadium that cost so much to build hardly gets used. The the city should plan for what's going to happen after the games are over so it doesn't go to waste. Unless they have big plans for once the repairs are done, I don't really see a point in dedicating money and resources.

This article brings up similar topics on the pros and cons of holding the Olympics and what that has looked like in previous years. its interesting how it talks about that just about every Olympics game has gone over the original projected budget.

A good example of how sports have really shifted from avoiding politics to taking now addressing certain topics, especially in the last few years. It's especially huge when networks like ESPN whom typically avoid politics actually decide to change that ''rule''

It really is crazy to think about how media shapes our thinking of certain sports/ athletes. Just in the way that media portrays an athlete can make a huge difference on the athlete themselves and how liked/ disliked they are and maybe even if they allowed to stay on that team.

Though it was mentioned briefly in class this article brings up some good points/thoughts on how the culture of certain sports may encourage more violence amongst people at sporting events. For example sports like rugby, MMA, hockey and football aggressiveness, fighting, and trash talk are normal.

in 2019 during a steelers and browns game. Myles garret took the helmet off of a steelers players and hit him with it, leaving him suspended indefinitely. This isn't considered the norm for football, it shows how certain settings can cause you to do irrational things you wouldn't typically do.

It’s crazy how quickly fights like these can escalate even when thats not the players intention. Had the outcome been different likely no one would’ve batted an eye. Head hits/ injury’s can be very concerning.

This would be considered negative deviance since doping is unusual, risky, illegal and when/if caught there are major consequences.

Kamila Valieva, got caught in a doping scandal during the 2022 Winter Olympic resulting in Russia's Gold medal being stripped away. sadly, she was likely under the pressures of coaches and doctors to take banned substances. I would still consider this to be negative deviance.

It is crazy to think about how they even considered her skin colour to be a reflection of her hard work and talent. the fact that mentality wasn't even all that long ago, but I'm happy to see how she followed through with her goals, because she proved to be a huge asset and a wonderful gymnast.

Wow I haven't heard of her before, but thank you for highlighting this! It's very exciting to watching how gender norms are starting to change in sports like MMA, with more more women getting involved. Hopefully toxic ideas of gender norms will shift more as the sport continues to evolve.

I like that you have committed to the idea of staying active in some way year round knowing you'll be busy anyways. I think that so important so that your mind and body stay healthy not just for yourself but also so family and work activities don't become as challenged with age.

I know Balancing a full time career with Physical activity wont be easy. However I hope to pursue a career in Physical therapy which should be a reminder of how important it is to keep the body moving in some way at any age and/or ability. The benefits are both physical and mental.

I would define sport as an activity that requires physical exertion while also being organized (rules, judges/referee’s point system, spectators) in some form. For example I would argue that swimming For fun at the beach is more a leisurely activity in comparison to competitive swimming team.
