my parents didn't "understand." It didn't matter. Our neighbor was kind and friendly and fun, and that's what mattered. We had a priest who ended homilies with "Be kind. Be kind. Be kind." It's powerful to see your parents put that into practice every day. If I am good, it's because of that example
