HMCS William Hall returned to Halifax recently after a deployment on Op Caribbe, the Canadian contribution to US-led counter-narcotics operations. The deployment included patrols and interdictions with USCG Law Enforcement Detachment. Shows strong operational partnership between RCN and USCG.

Build of RCN's AOPS will be complete this year with delivery of 6th/final ship, future HMCS Robert Hampton Gray, this summer. The AOPS for the CCG are also progressing - launch of 1st ship anticipated in 2026 and construction of 2nd ship underway. As well, shipyard is ramping up for the RCD project.

Canadian Coast Guard’s new Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel, CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk begins sea trials this week. The ship will be put through full-scale exercises to test performance of key systems and seaworthiness.

New Canadian Prime Minister surprises with a new plan for defence. He says Canada can meet NATO's 2% spending target in a year. Is it just fancy accounting footwork? Let's hope not.

NATO discusses increasing defence spending commitment targets for member states to 5%. That's a big jump. Canada is already facing significant criticism for not even meeting the old target of 2%.

The plot thickens. Two South Korean companies - Hanwha Ocean and Hyundai Heavy Industries - have been delivered a detailed plan to the Canadian government to re-equip the RCN with the latest version of their submarines, the KSS-III.

Great that a Canadian submarine will be undertaking operations this summer after a long period out of the water getting repairs and updates. DND/RCN say HMCS Corner Brook is now Canada’s “most advanced submarine.”

Great to hear from Seaspan that significant progress is being made on the Joint Supply Ships for the navy - the future HMCS Protecteur and HMCS Preserver. It's been a long long long process, but the first ship is looking good.

Last week, HMCS Ville de Québec left Halifax for long deployment. VDQ joins UK's multinational Carrier Strike Group off Europe, then to Indo-Pacific region on Operation Horizon to promote rules-based int'l order, illustrate ability to sustain naval operations, collaborate with allies/partners.
