WTA point penalties for not playing 500s are insane and don’t seem to be applied fairly. And it’s NOT in the huge WTA rule book. Why were Aryna & Iga hit hard this week but not Coco when Coco only played 3 (Iga played 4)? Jas didn’t play 6 but no penalties. Madi was penalized but she had injuries.

Rooting for AA bc I’m a sucker for a first-time Slam winner and she’s been stellar. It’s a really tough one to call though. I hope she was able to recover well after a very long & late finish SF. Also looks like the roof will be closed again which will benefit Aryna “can’t play in wind”Sabalenka.

Yeah, it’s crazy they didn’t notice her not even on the schedule for so many days. As a fan, I noticed and assumed there was something wrong physically bc normally she’s out there grinding away and not squirrel watching in Central Park. 😜 Happy she scrapped her way to the quarters.

I think Iga handled this well. She gave full credit to Amanda in her press conference and praised her play. She didn’t mention anything about the foot until after the tourney was over. She knew there would be plenty of haters accusing her of making excuses so no complaints, no MTOs, no excuses.

Ya I think he could’ve worded it better & not said “mental break” after journos wrote about her being depressed all year.
I was surprised none of them picked up on Iga not practicing. I thought it was v weird she didn’t practice before R16 or QF. She says on IG she’s struggling w/ a foot issue.

Agreed,👍 I wasn’t upset when Leylah lost there early this year - she doesn’t need another DC-Montreal repeat!

I think TSN+ is so worth it for the slams. They have separate streams for almost every court - you can even catch doubles & jrs later in the events. Plus you get world feed commentary so aren’t stuck with the US duds. 😁

Not too bad for Iga! The draw looks pretty top half heavy again though with Saba’s quarter being stacked. That Navarro/Pegula 3rd quarter is a billionaire’s dream. 🤣

Tennis fans with day session tix in TO are getting way less value for $ this year. Gates open at 10am &
normally there are 2-3 matches in early rds @ 11am; this year only one until 12:30. Guess we know the reason now - player complaints. They could stay way closer to the venue but choose downtown.

ATP and WTA have always given tennis players the option to either stay in sexy downtown TO (1 hour drive) or convenient Markham (10-15 min drive). Most choose downtown bc there are fancier hotels. Markham is great - best Asian food in Canada IMO. 🔥 😋

His comments annoy me. The players CHOOSE to stay in downtown Toronto for fancy hotels & Michelin stars. There are SO many hotel options much closer to the tennis venue. I’m staying in Markham, which is only a 15-min drive during prime rush-hour. Lots of hotels & the food options are amazing!
