The campaign has not broken any rules even if the strategy is unorthodox.

What I am more interested in is if any of the other candidates support NATO and Carney's massive increase to military spending, because I haven't heard any of them talk about being against that (and some are in support).

As for the financial commentary:

The NDP rules about the registration fee are vague. If funds for that fee have to be processed through the party, does that mean the entrance fee is now $133,333 (25% party admin fee on campaign donations)? A good question for the party I think.

Appreciate this. In light of this I think the coverage on that piece is fair. He should have been more clear in the email. But implying the campaign is a grift because of it seems a bit much.

I attended a public event close before this email exchange, Yves was clear vetting wasn't submitted yet.

In the episode, Martin cites a NP reporter who asked Yves "Have you received word that your approval for candidacy is forthcoming and that your name will appear on the official leadership ballot."

Is this something Yves said at an event or in a social media post, or is there an article? Thanks.

We can look at what happened to Anjali Appadurai in BC. There are other examples of candidates having a hard time with their riding association or riding associations clashing with the party when they want to nominate a socialist.

Not sure if we are agreeing or disagreeing.

The $100,000 biases towards candidates who know enough rich people, not candidates who bring in the most members.

The NDP also has a history of blocking candidates who can bring in new sign ups anyway if the politics of the candidate is seen as a threat.

It's absolutely justified to show mass support behind an actually left wing campaign before submitting vetting, based on the NDP's history of excluding candidates who promote socialist politics.

The campaign has been clear about this at public events.

The headline says "may be breaking rules." We should be asking why the media thinks it's relevant to say "may be" instead of "is."

This implies the campaign could also be following party rules.

I don't really understand posting a claim like this instead of interviewing the candidate and the campaign.

We know that anyone against the establishment NDP will be subject to attacks by the media. Who does it help to add to that narrative instead of getting the other side of the story first.

If the quote in the Toronto Star is being applied to crowd-sourced funds to pay registration fees then candidates who want to do this will have to pay $133,333 to enter the contest (the NDP charges a 25% registration fee).

This would bias the contest even further against grassroots candidates.

I hope the NDP is not positioning itself to charge a registration fee of $133,333 to candidates who crowdsource the fee.

If they are, that should be a far bigger story than criticism of how the Yves campaign is showing that it has mass support before going through the vetting process.

The NDP decided that candidates have to pay a massive $100,000 registration fee to become a leadership contestant.

Registration fees are different from campaign expenses.

The NDP charges a 25% administration fee to monetary donations to a leadership campaign.
