Very cool to have a more refined taxonomic threshold library. This also highlights the need to examine phylogenetic signals or sequence composition.

% similarity can only take you so far because it ignores context!

Excited to announce that Chapter 2 from my thesis, wherein i accidentally take a very fun detour away from 'omics, is live!

Our new study shows how eDNA can track fine scale marine biodiversity loss under human impacts. Using a large scale mesocosm experiment we monitored temporal dynamics in bio-accumulation, response to stressors and eDNA degradation #eDNA #MarineBiodiversity onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Quantifying the Temporal Dynamics of Marine Biodiversity Under Anthropogenic Impacts Using eDNA Metabarcoding
This study uses eDNA to explore marine biodiversity changes under anthropogenic impacts, with a focus on marine community dynamics. Through the use of eDNA metabarcoding, the research identified 814 ....

Cool preprint showing the application of multimodal machine learning to #eDNA research and how explicitly incorporating other types of data can improve your results

I am working on a multimodal machine learning approach for eDNA too (stay tuned 😉) and it's great to see this method getting traction!

Explainable Multimodal Machine Learning Using Combined Environmental DNA and Biogeographic Features for Ecosystem Biomonitoring
Machine learning (ML) has been proposed as a taxonomy-independent approach using environmental DNA (eDNA) for ecosystem biomonitoring. Representations of eDNA amplicons either as clustered sequences t...

Nice reporting from @meganewald.bsky.social on point if use #eDNA detections of West African Manatees

Excited for what the future holds in being able to rapidly test for endangered cryptic species - particularly the rotund ones
Africa’s manatees are highly elusive. A new DNA test promises to reveal their presence
Genetic traces in water could help survey populations under growing threat

Remember in math class when your teacher always said you have to show your work?

Yeah I’ve been think about that a lot this week.

If you don’t share the data, you
don’t share the math, and don’t provide the sources, then we do not trust you.
