The Azores-based researchers and educators, Sea-Water Amplification (SWA), have been (re)publishing some of my old writing on the sea and seafaring.

Let them know what you think — and maybe support them too, if you're inclined.

Two survivors, sharing post-heart attack tales over coffee and non-alcoholic drinks in the midst of yesterday's storm: me and fellow vagabond — more, one of my few good friends — @pinoseed-connect.bsky.social, at a chichi café overlooking Marina Sant'Elmo, in Cagliari.

Thousands of dead fish strewn across the waters of Cagliari harbour, this morning, killed by toxic run-off from the city’s streets and drains after last night’s deluge.

This evening: lightning storms and torrential rain over Cagliari, where we and our old sailboat, Wrack, are berthed for the autumn.

A wooden boat I fell in love with on Lymington River, a couple of years ago. Loved the name, too.

I’ve since heard she’s moored on a river somewhere in England’s west country, neglected and decaying. I hope not.

The new master of Wrack: our friend, @pinoseed-connect.bsky.social, resting aboard our boat today after his discharge from hospital in Cagliari. He is recovering from a heart attack and emergency surgery two weeks ago.

My friend @pinoseed-connect.bsky.social has just anchored off the south coast of Mallorca after a long haul singlehanded from Algeria (via Ibiza). He’s inviting anyone who might want to join him there to hang out or to sail with him to Sardinia in a couple of weeks to reach out: peter@pinoseed.com

Our son, Finn, who has sailed 660 miles with us over the past seven weeks, will leave us here in Cagliari to fly to Paris, where he will co-produce a series of events for Fashion Week. Given and I will sail the 220 nautical miles to Rome two-handed.

My friend @pinoseed-connect.bsky.social was en route to Malta from southern Spain when his 10-metre sailboat was beset by gale-force winds and heavy seas. With a broken rib, Peter decided to seek refuge in Algiers, where he was taken in tow by the Algerian navy.

Last glimpse of Ibiza from Wrack’s tented cockpit, as we motor eastward through a persistent calm and the coast recedes astern beneath the setting sun.
