Lunar Occultation of Mars tonight (1/13/2025)! If it's clear around 9:15 pm (in NYC) and you look (with binoculars probably) at the lower left part of the moon, you'll see Mars sneak behind the moon for a little more than an hour. Simulated view made with OpenSpace

Let's all shed a tear for every sundial that is now broken thanks to daylight savings time. During standard time, they point north at noon (roughly). Now, everything is off by 30º.

Spheres on Earth are just like the Spheres in the sky!

Hold up a spherical object in the bright sun, align it with the moon, and it will have the same phase as the moon!
