This won’t get the headlines NYC and Virginia and New Jersey are getting, but the local results of yesterday’s elections in Salt Lake County (which includes both blue SLC and purple and red suburbs) seem significant.

Today in my Family + Law in American history class, we were scheduled to begin discussing immigration law. And then I learned BYU was hosting a naturalization ceremony at the exact time as our class, so we moved class here instead.
Few things remind me what I love about America as much as this.

Are you even staying in a Williamsburg hotel if your room doesn’t have a framed photo of George Washington?

Partner and kids return tonight from a quick fall break getaway. I just finished installing new faucets in the kitchen and guest bathroom - a total surprise to them.
Please clap.

This very, very good boy woke me this morning at 4 am. Turns out my T1D daughter’s blood sugar levels were dangerously low and her CGM wasn’t transmitting those numbers to our phones.
Don’t know if he sensed her low sugars or it was just a coincidence, but I’m very grateful right now.

Rafa turned 7 this weekend. His very favorite spot is curled up as close to me as possible.
He’s the first pet I’ve ever had. I still don’t think I’m a dog person, but he’s a very good boy.

As a scholar of religion, this sort of paragraph (from the NYT story on Minnesota shooter Vance Boelter) makes zero sense, treating “religious fervor” and political ideology as if they’re two discreet categories easily distinguished from one another.

Visiting my alma mater (William & Mary) today, and was able to visit Hearth: Memorial to the Enslaved, honoring (+ where possible, naming) the >200 Africans + African Americans enslaved by the College.
As someone who played just the tiniest role in the Lemon Project, this is so meaningful.

Thinking a lot today about the one year our family spent on Medicaid and what today’s bill means for those still on it (for now).
