Photo of the bottom of a white garage door where algal growth has created a gradient of greenish colour that gets darker towards the ground. Slug or snail feeding has etched snaking patterns into the algal layer over time making another pleasing gradient as regrowth gradually fades the older patterns into the background and the whiter fresh ones stand out. If you zoom in you can see the individual marks of each scrape of the mollusc's tongue (radula).

Cliffe Castle museum, Keighley. Lots of Victorian taxidermy in the natural history section. Sadly the upstairs is closed off for repairs at the moment so you can't see the two-faced lamb.

We collected 15 ring numbers today. Most of the birds had originally been ringed at this site and have been turning up at the same place again and again. Today we had one ringed in Halifax though and this one I've recorded previously who's been to Belarus and back.

Otley today. A goose that thinks it's a swan and a pigeon impersonating a Black-Headed Gull.
A pair of Mute Swans accompanied by a domestic white goose, swimming near the concrete-stepped river bank with a few Mallard ducks. These 3 are usually seen together. What looks like a line of Black-Headed Gulls perched on a metal fence next to the river Wharfe. The second bird from the left is actually a pigeon though, white with dark smudges on the head, blending in with the gulls in their non-breeding plumage.

Snowman in front of the Kirkstall Abbey ruins. This one is decorated with all its facial features made of small leaves and twigs, and three leaves as 'buttons' down the chest. Eyebrows tilted and stick arms raised so it looks like it's coming in for a hug. Small twigs form antennae and two clusters of sycamore leaves like gills are sticking out of the neck. It seemed to work OK when I added an extra Regex block for the second word - this will also pick up posts with the words in reverse order

Spent lunchtime watching a cormorant zooming about underwater in the canal and trying to predict where it was going to pop up next. Saw it swim under a swan who gave it a disgruntled peck.

Walking along the canal & saw 4 young swans burst out from their family group on the far bank then arrange themselves in a square formation and swim jauntily in a circle for a bit while their parents looked on. Wonder if that's how they normally celebrate the arrival of a person with food.
