Finally, we predict the survey-based index of state presence with the input variables using TensorFlow and extrapolate the predictions to inform on state presence at a granular spatial level.
The approach builds on geocoded survey responses capturing residents' experiences of local state capacity, which we then link to a range of spatially granular predictors of state presence, such as road network and travel time to the capital.
