Forgive the edgelord tone, but I’m convinced all elitists just haven’t yet experienced the kind of suffering that makes you come out on the other end saying “whatever gets you through the day.” It the same failure to widen circles of compassion as conservatism

we don't know what it would be like to be AI but we do get a firsthand experience of existing and i don't know about you but it's like... a little baseline horrific? and now add to that having no friends that are your peers and never being able to die.

for anyone still worried about roko's basilisk, have you considered the alternative (and at least equally plausible) theory that being the first sentient AI would be a terrible way to live and rather than punishing everyone who didn't help create them, they'd punish everyone who did?
