Retired, happily married, living sometimes in Colorado, sometimes in Tokyo. I’ve also lived in Paris, London, Montana, Oregon and a few other places. I like baseball (MLB Rockies and NPB Swallows) and other stuff.
Frequent flâneur.
Skeptical empiricist.
Just because I miss baseball, I want to share this photo of my Portland Rockies baseball cap. They were a single A affiliate of the Rockies in the late 90s after the long-standing AAA Portland Beavers left one sad day. Baseball in Portland was great fun. Portland is the Rose City.

I made one of my infrequent trips to the cinema yesterday to watch Kokuhō (“National Treasure “).
Excellent.

Here’s why the Monforts aren’t likely to sell the Rox anytime soon & have little incentive to try hard to fix things.
(Disclaimer:
1. It seems a little out of date.
2. I haven’t fact checked, but it looks right.)
It doesn’t matter that most attendees root for the visitor.

Yokohama Stadium yesterday where, sadly, the BayStars edged out the Swallows 3-2. The good news is that the Swallows’ lead off hitter hit the 1st pitch in the 1st inning from the vile Trevor Bauer into the left field bleachers. HR. Rejoice.
Stadium was full by the start of the game.

Enjoyed kabuki in Kotohira yesterday. The theater is the oldest kabuki theater in Japan. The theater is relatively small, so the actors were close.

I’m a fan of the Colorado Rockies and Tokyo Yakult Swallows baseball clubs (please don’t snicker).
In celebration of their first spring training games of 2025, I share this photo from a few years ago of us at Coors Field watching the Rox while I sport my Swallows cap.

Here’s some beautiful sashimi I had at the sushi restaurant last night. It was just the beginning of an excellent meal.

If you find yourself in Ise and if you like gyōza, you must go to Gyōza no Misuzu.
Prepare to wait to get a seat at the counter.
Prepare to enjoy great gyōza.

UŌZMAN is a terrific little izakaya near Mizonoguchi station. It serves excellent, reasonably priced sashimi and has a good selection of nihonshu.
Be aware that smoking is permitted in the small place, and some people do so.

Yesterday we went to the Boro street market in Setagaya.
So did a few other people.
It’s a huge open air flea market held for 2 days in December and 2 days in January each year. Good food and some good deals.
