A 71-year-old California man died this weekend after his car was swept away by a creek flooded by heavy rains. Officials say when rescuers found the man’s vehicle in Pleasant Grove, the water was so high that only a piece of the trunk was visible.

Hurricane Melissa shredded the roof, tore off walls and left debris thrown across the property of St. Elizabeth Technical High School in Santa Cruz, Jamaica. The principal said he believes the school will be closed for several weeks at a minimum before classes or school activity can resume on-site.
