I’ll give some context I can really think of personally: having someone say “God hates f*gs like you.” “You blaspheme the name of God, you aren’t a Christian”
Or even some uglier things that are being thrown around towards my trans siblings. Legislation used to harm them

Jesus is apologizing in a strange way… Not so much a “Sorry this sucks, tough it out” apology.
But a genuine apology because he understood what it was like to be persecuted in the name of faith and empire.
