@cbeiter.bsky.social
Music, radio (yes, WXPN KEXP), tennis, and following politics.
Ugh, Bartees Strange had whole album covering The National, and his version of Lemonworld should have at least made my consider list. Oops. Probably wouldnt have made my top 10, but still a strong contender.

More regrets.... Cowboy Junkies cover of the Velvet Underground's tune Sweet Jane and the Sunday's cover of the The Rolling Stones' song Wild Horses. Reenvisioned classics.

I was informed today that out of the thousands of folks who submitted their votes, somehow my depressing top 10 was randomly selected by @wxpnfm.bsky.social to guest DJ with Mike V during the noon hour on Monday. I'll have to refer back to this long thread when we chat about it on air! Gasp.

I’m enjoying it so far

This sounds like an endorsement

Submitted those votes and already having regrets. Sonic Youth’s Superstar, Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, Blondie’s Hanging On The Telephone, Bunnymen’s People Are Strange, Nirvana’s numerous great covers….. why we only get 10 votes @wxpnfm.bsky.social Wwhhhhyyyyyy?

Getting close.

That's definitely not the final ranking either. I love Phoebe, but Husker's probably gonna snag my #1 spot. Pretty sure we have to rank them when we vote. And I think I HAVE to find a way to get Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go onto my list somewhere.
October 28, 2025 at 5:15 PM
How do I pick just one Johnny Cash cover when he owned all 3 of those songs? Maybe I shouldn’t give him any votes because we all know Hurt is gonna be #1 or 2.
October 28, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Like, does Beyoncé really deserve to be in the top 10 compared to Tainted Love? Can I cheat and get 2 covers for one vote if I pick the Soft Cell - Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love go mix???
October 28, 2025 at 2:40 PM
I’m trying…..
October 28, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Yup, 10 votes and I'm still stuck at 16 songs so guess I have to try to rank them.
October 27, 2025 at 10:41 PM
Oh yeah, Phoebe Bridgers' version of Manchester Orchestra's The Gold is probably gonna snag one of my votes. So few left...
October 27, 2025 at 10:27 PM
@wxpnfm.bsky.social is definitely amping up the pressure to get the list narrowed down. That Robert Plant cover of Low is pretty epic too, but I think I only have like 5 or 6 votes unallocated. Tough decision time

Jose Gonzales’ cover of The Knife’s Heartbeats is pretty much a lock for my top 10.
October 25, 2025 at 9:06 PM
I will definitely consider Beyoncé's cover of Blackbird. I know there are mixed perspectives on it, but those vocals and the lyrical tweaks gave me chills the first time i listened to it, and thats a good filter for my vote.

Peter Gabriel's cover of David Bowie's Heroes must be in consideration. And speaking of Bowie, Nine Inch Nails cover of Bowie's Afraid of Americans seems timely.
September 27, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Oh dang @wxpnfm.bsky.social I never thought I'd hear that 8 miles high cover on the radio... other than when I played it on the overnight shift college radio in like 1989. Its on my list of potential votes here.
September 27, 2025 at 7:13 PM
But what about less obvious covers? R.E.M.'s cover of Texan band The Clique's Superman? Low covering The Smiths' Last Night I Dreamt... Lemonheads' Mrs. Robinson? Dinosaur Jr's Just Like Heaven? Husker Du's 8 Miles High? This is impossible.
September 26, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Let's start with the obvious Johnny Cash cover of NIN, Hurt. Or his cover of Soundgardens Rusty Cage? Gary Jules' cover of Tears For Fears' Mad World? No Doubt covering Talk Talk's Its My Life??? Throw a dart at the board to pick a cover of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car!!!

I'll be back for the WXPN and KEXP countdowns in December!

So, why should I use a service or product where the typical behavior is negative? Definitely not good to use for politics in any way. Im too lefty liberal gay for those on the right and too white CIS male establishment for those on the left. So honestly, fuck it.
