I wrote this blog post to offer some initial reflections on a topic that I hope others will find as exciting as I do! The aim is to spark broader interest among students and scholars in comparative studies of seafaring and naval warfare in antiquity. 🌊⚔️🐏
Today on the blog, Stephen DeCasien (@sdecasien.bsky.social) discusses the parallel evolution of two ancient warships, one from Greece and one from China.

Last week I was in Athens, at the close of a wonderful conference on Hellenistic Macedonia and Sparta. Today I was in Exeter, planning further work on the Antigonids. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

This year's last seminar was great fun! There were sweet treats, and the students wrote poems inspired by an honorific decree from Delos for the Roman Marcus Minatius, set up by Poseidon worshippers from Berytos (IDelos 1520, ca. 150 BCE). Some highlights, shared with permission. #AncientBluesky
