Just as we refer to "Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party" how soon should we start referring to "Gina Reinhardt's National and Liberal Parties"?

(🧵) THREAD: I am shocked at how many people here think Trump has the upper hand in his feud with Musk—and I am convinced that it is the urgency of the media narrative in this direction that has made so many take this counterfactual position.

As a biographer of both men, I’ll outline the situation.

Is the Australian Liberal party "a party that by definition exists to represent the interests of capital against the party of labour."
By its behavior it represents the interests of our oligarchs, the few billionaires and their hangers-on. But "capital"? No.

The Liberals are not just going through a phase – this is a full-blown identity crisis
The party is not in good health. Sussan Ley’s main challenge is to ensure the party understands just how much trouble it is in.

Has the fucking thing gotten into orbit?

No, it has not.

They even REDESIGNED Starship, and remember the previous design never made it into orbit either.

No matter how many metrics they try to apply, American taxpayers have spent at least $5 billion for a vehicle that still can't achieve orbit.

So Pres Trump wants to depopulate the USA - by 21 million people! Why? Most leaders want their countries to grow!
He's ridding the country of non-citizens, but becoming a citizen in mainly an issue of time and bureaucracy.
I'm guessing it's a fear that the new potential citizens bring in new ideas.

Commentators, particularly those US-centric, imagine that Pres Trump's many mis-steps will damage the world. In fact, they will damage the US, and the rest of the world will keep on doing what it does. They will affect the world, but in unpredictable ways.

The latest Pope is most accurately described as being a Peruvian, who was born in the USA. But isn't. It's interesting that some people fixate on the moment of birth, to identify a person, ignoring everything after.

What's the best name for Pres Trumps political and economic strategies? (Assuming there is any...) - I'll put forward "neofeudalism". New feudalism in the modern age - divine right of kings and presidents, laws only applying to those the leader does not like, rent-seeking as the standard, etc.

It's fascinating that US politicians are still behaving like it's (political) business as usual. It's clear that US administration has moved to rule by presidential decree, just like in Putin's Russia, and Xi's China (or Turkiye, India, Israel etc).

A tariff is a form of taxation. So increasing tariffs is the same as increasing taxes. So whenever you hear someone say they are increasing "tariffs", just substitute the word with "taxes", and repeat that back to them.

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted.
Yet somehow Musk isn't.

Similarly, I see "Pres Trump is introducing new tariffs", when you can equally say, "Pres Trump is introducing new consumption taxes". They describe the same situation, but the word choice puts a particular spin on it.

I read "the Trump administration is not backing down in its effort to slash spending and ....", but why not write "... not backing down in its effort to slash government services"?
People see "spending" which is kinda bad, but that is really equivalent to "government services" which is kinda good.
