"Meet the Grahams" & "Not Like Us," Kendrick Lamar

How could I forget to list this euphoric, savage pop culture moment brought to us by one of the greatest to ever do it

THE IPCRESS FILE, Len Deighton

Nobody talks about Deighton much, but he's a really sharp, clever writer.

(I was also somewhat surprised by just how different the book is from its iconic film adaptation.)

THE NONEXISTENT KNIGHT and THE CLOVEN VISCOUNT, Italo Calvino

Calvino's greatest work might be INVISIBLE CITIES, but this set of complimentary novellas makes for a really strong runner-up.

ELDEN RING: SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE, Hidetaka Miyazaki

There will never be another game like Elden Ring. One of the greatest endeavors in fantasy storytelling in any medium.

GUERNICA, Pablo Picasso

I'm not a "Picasso person," really, but when I saw this in Madrid this year, it took my breath away.

All the reproductions and photos I've seen don't come close to doing it justice.

BLACK CLASSICAL MUSIC, Yussef Dayes

There's something of a jazz resurgence happening, which gives me great pleasure. Dayes is one of its bright stars.

This is astonishing stuff, folks.

THE DIFFERENT COMPANY: OUD FOR LOVE, Bertrand Duchaufour

Perfume can be as thrilling as music. As perfumers go, Duchaufour is one of the all-time greats. He's a master of opulent, stained glass-style aromatic structures, and this study of oud is one of his best creations.

STONER, John Williams

We don't talk about Williams much, as far as I can tell, but what writer he is! This is an achingly tender novel about a simple life. Moved me to tears.

"Good Luck Babe," Chappell Roan

Look, you know this song. You don't need me to tell you about it.

But it's very rare that a practically perfect pop single comes around. This is one of 'em.

LA CHIMERA, Alice Rohrwacher

I am far from a celluloid fetishist, but this is a love letter to the textures of film. A spellbinding excursion into liminality and longing.

THE RETURN, Roberto Bolaño

Bolaño is my favorite author and I've read most of his work. I've been trying to save and savor the remainder.

This collection of stories knocked me out cold. It's astonishing.
