My first time in the Atlantic Forest—Parque das Neblinas—in Brazil before heading to #COP30. I saw these incredible Tangará birds (wire-tailed manakins) in the midst of their mating dance. Apparently the male birds cooperate in a hierarchy of sorts to attract the female. Enjoy!

The ground is daily shifting under our feet, and it is hard to cope or know what to do. It was so uplifting hiking on Mt Graylock in the Berkshires today with Steven Augustine and Azzo Seguin—thinking about freezing tolerance along altitudinal gradients.

Our paper on the Forest and Biodiversity experiment (FAB2) at Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve is out. We made the cover! The “ecosystem-scale” experiment is designed to test long-term ecosystem consequences of tree diversity & composition

#ESA Governing Board retreat earlier this week. Should ESA extend the tent? How do we keep what is essential to academics but inclusive of NGOs, gov’t, private sector, indigenous voices? Navigating the changing publication landscape. ESA at #COP16 representing US science…does it justify the flights?

Great hike with students from the #ESA Delegation to #COP16 this morning in the mountains behind the city of Calí to “Tres Cruces”—we saw cool plants (like Bixa orellana) and great rocks

Oak forests play a vital role in North American ecosystems regulating climate and supporting biodiversity. However, these forests face compounding threats from drought and oak wilt. Here is a novel method for differentiating these threats using remote sensing

Phylogenetic completeness. By emphasizing branches of the tree of life as conservation units we have a better chance of saving the breadth of innovations that life has generated

We recently returned from the #NASA #BioSCape project in South Africa. Our team is investigating evolutionary convergence in foliar spectral reflectance signatures across lineages within the Proteaceae and contributing to maps of functional trait variation for biodiversity monitoring
