1929 also saw the construction on a few buildings that would come to be some of the most emblematic modernist designs in Britain. In Fleet Street the Daily Express Building was being built. Initially designed by Ellis & Clarke, it was given a sleek overhaul by Owen Williams 7/9

On Great Marlborough Street, Ideal House was completed as offices for the National Radiator Company. Designed by American architect Raymond Hood, the 7 storey building is clad in black granite with art deco detailing at street and roof level 5/9
