Another chart showing how differently large counties (>500K voters) voted in 2024 vs. 2020 compared to small and medium counties.

This is likely driven in part by the swing toward Trump in foreign-born population, as identified by @economist.com

Interestingly, every single large county, defined here as >500K people, had fewer Dem voters in 2024 than in 2020.

I enjoyed listening to @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social and @davidshor.bsky.social discuss the 2024 election results. One segment covered Dems staying home vs. switching in 2024.
Data show that Dems lost votes in ~90% of counties while Reps gained in ~50%, suggesting large amounts of Dems did stay home.
