Devastatingly, the sexual exploitation continued long after WWII ended. During the Korean War, the trafficking of women was facilitated and sanctioned by the South Korean and American governments.

The horrific abuse inflicted by the soldiers against the ‘comfort women’ was never fully acknowledged by the Japanese government.

From the Palermo Protocol to the Beijing Declaration, the #UN has provided states and civil society with human rights tools to tackle human trafficking and target its’ root cause, namely, demand.
