I was an adult in the 70s. Yes there were strikes/power cuts/inflation/shortages. There were also strong NHS/free education/strong unions/houses cost3xsalary.
Biggest difference to now? People had hope that life was still improving. Huge issues but how will my grandchildren look back on the 2030s?

When my daughter and a friend went for interview at Liverpool Uni, they went sightseeing after at Pier Head. Realized they were running late for the train. Saw a bus,
"Do you go to Lime St?"
"Sure, jump on"
No fares/no other passengers. I explained, it's Liverpool, he'd probably "borrowed" the bus

Yep, I have no problem with people disliking specific policies, or saying Starmer isn't good at political communication, but cannot accept those saying "Starmer's the worst PM ever/Starmer is a Tory/I can't see any difference" are acting with good will or honesty

I'm not convinced it's a cult, I cannot believe these people are stupid enough to believe what they say. They are just either scared of Trump's goons or realize they are so inadequate they have no other route to power/supergrifting

Had similar 20 years ago. Needed a hotel in rural Northumberland. Walked up to reception. "Sorry, you'll have to ring central reservations in Birmingham...."

I used O'Hare every week for 5 years, relatively easy to navigate, depressing design (in the 00s anyway).
