Quite honestly, I dislike algorithm music discovery... so I had no problem Spotify over that. Most of my music discovery is manual.

But you can connect last.fm to Plex, I also have Sonic Sync working on Plex so that it can recommend similar songs to me to play next.

I have a mini-pc running linux as a server that runs plex & audiobookshelf along with tailscale. All of my music / podcasts are stored in a drive on the server and I can be listen to it anytime and anywhere.

It's actually got me to leave ALOT OF different tech subscriptions.

I left spotify for a selfhosted solution on everything.
