Hi, I'm Marlee and I am (re)reading the #Warriors books and sharing my live commentary while I do so.
(cont.) the eyes of the ThunderClan protagonists so far.

I wish the novella was a full-sized book tbh.

Well… Cloudstar‘s journey sure was an internal one, since they aren‘t going anywhere until the very end of the novella but god fucking damn it it made me tear up. I never loathed ThunderClan the way I loathe them now. Really puts into perspective that we only ever saw ThunderClan through (cont.)

I am rapidly getting attached to SkyClan. The leader is so involved not only with his family but also all the apprentices and such a good duo with his deputy. And they have an elder cat with epilepsy which they call falling sickness. This bodes really badly for me and my feelings omg.

The foreshadowing in this first chapter is crazyyyy. I feel so bad for Cloudstar and the rest of SkyClan already and I just met them! The fact that he will never even meet the children he is so looking forward to… Heartbreaking.

Next up: Cloudstar‘s Journey, which will be the first book I will provide live commentary on.

(cont.) I thought Sol was suave but he is actually just incompetent and annoying, Harrykit is a god-awful name, why did Leafstar and Billystorm have two female ginger kits? Shouldn‘t they be rare? In the BillyLeaf divorce I would be on his side and I love Shrewtooth, that‘s my son.

Onto SkyClan and the Stranger:

This truly is the New-Leaf of the clan because EVERYONE is fucking and having babies. Good for them tho! I really don‘t have that many notes except: the flood finally happens and it‘s somehow not that big of a deal and a huge deal at the same time, (cont.)
October 17, 2025 at 8:37 AM
then shunned them for not showing up for the clan in the same way that full clan cats were. HATED that and almost hoped they would all say „fuck you“ and desert them. Leafstar did way too little in that regard. Her own deputy was BULLYING then.
October 17, 2025 at 8:29 AM
A huge low, however, to me was the clan’s treatment of their own daylight warriors compared to how they treated the loners. The idolization of Stick and the gang which was encouraged and honestly directly caused by Sharpclaw annoyed me so much. Kept the daylight warriors out of everything (cont.)
October 17, 2025 at 8:28 AM
Having Stick kill his own daughter? The one cat he tried to excuse and rationalize all his hatred for? Beautiful. Such a good and open end actually for his character and the other loners. I like how we don‘t get to sit with him as he processes his actions. I really do love that.

(cont.) because of how awful I imagined it to be.

SkyClan‘s Destiny:

I thought the whole book that the „big disaster“ in the book would be one thing, but then that never happened and happened in the graphic novel instead.

I did enjoy the final showdown and the ending though. Like immensely.

WHY DID THEY NERF MY POOR LONGTAIL!! I was genuinely so upset about him losing his vision. The lost potential is IMMENSE.

My other big sad in this book was Rainfur‘s death. That was so gruesome and awful to imagine. I honestly just wished while I was reading that he would die already (cont.)

The only light at the end of the tunnel was Billystorm for real. I love that guy so much, but oof…

Ok now to specific gripes/comments in order:

Did NOT enjoy Firestar and Sandstorm throughout the majority of FQ, though I have to admit this is in part because of Spottedleaf and her meddling ass.

I tried to have some grace for Leafstar, who is trailblazing this whole clan thing basically, but GOD was she sabotaged by her own deputy and medicine cat in this second super edition. Echosong and Sharpclaw made me want to bash my head against the wall over and over again.
October 17, 2025 at 8:14 AM
At times, however, I wished they would take it a step further still; a unique call for clan meetings or adapting the full moon gatherings to something better suited.
But the daylight warriors were a cool addition, although I did share Leafstar‘s hesitance in having a daylight medicine cat app.

Apart from Firestar‘s Quest, all of these books were completely new to me and without that added factor of nostalgia, these books hit different in a way. I enjoyed the novel concept of a clan existing separate from others, which forces them to adapt and form new rules in the warrior code.

Overall I think the first arc held up well. Although there are sooo many plot holes and inconsistencies and the oftentimes too fast pacing, I enjoyed myself greatly. I think the conclusion to Tigerstar‘s tyranny was super fun as well, I like how in the end he wasn‘t all he was set up to be.
October 16, 2025 at 7:08 PM
And my other fav is Longtail, surprisingly. I loved the transformation he went through in these books from annoying and malicious to a capable and loyal warrior to Firestar. I kind of wish Firestar had made him his deputy after Whitestorm‘s death, I think he would have done a good job.
October 16, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Now to new favorites that I did not expect: Whitestorm. Might be my daddy issues but I love that dude so much. Such a great and humble warrior and a supportive and calming presence not only to Bluestar but also Fireheart/star. The only death I shed a tear for in this arc.
October 16, 2025 at 7:03 PM
I think Cinderpelt could have made a good mate to Firestar if her fate hadn‘t been to become a medicine cat… but then again he would have been her mentor for far longer and I don‘t know if I love that type of romantic dynamic… Dustpelt and Fernpaw made me incredibly uncomfortable.
October 16, 2025 at 7:02 PM
And don‘t even get me started on Cloudtail… though his blatant and loud atheism is absolutely hilarious considering that the existence of StarClan is provable and real.
Now on to characters that held up in my eyes: Yellowfang and Cinderpelt, still so cute, I love those two.
October 16, 2025 at 7:00 PM
And my taste in characters seems to have changed a lot too. Controversial opinions up ahead, maybe: Tigerstar sounds more and more like a feline Trump as the books progress, Sandstorm is incredibly insecure and hard to enjoy and I just kept wishing Spottedleaf would leave Firestar alone.

I was actually surprised just how much about the series I have forgotten over the years. I remembered the most important plot points and characters, but holy shit those cats love going to war about literally everything!
