The NYSDEC has announced its youth summer camp program for the 2025 season. It's a great way to plant the seeds of love for nature and care for public lands through hands on experience. As the planet warms, protecting our forests will become even more important for our survival.
Summer Camps
DEC camps combine environmental education, hunter education programs, and outdoor recreation into a fun adventure. We use a hands-on approach to teach about the environment.

DEC enforces the brush burning ban from March 16 thru May 14 to prevent wildfires and protect communities. Violators are subject to criminal & civil enforcement actions, with a minimum fine of $500 for a first offense. Residents are encouraged to remove leaves & debris from areas close to homes.

In honor of former CMC board member Howard Raab, who recently passed away, his family have asked that donations be made to the CMC in his memory. Howard served our community for many years. He was the longtime maintainer of the Kelly Hollow Trail where he led our Annual Ephemeral Wildflower Hike.

Seventeen very rugged people (and one rugged dog) hiked Bramley yesterday for the brief first opening of the tower - some from as far away as Lake George, Utica and Warwick and from as close by as Andes, Bovina, Bloomville, Delhi and Roxbury. Many thanks to the Clark family who donated the tower!

One of our most important goals is conservation. California is burning. Antarctica's glaciers are melting. What will happen to the Catskills? How many species will disappear from our forests? Global heating must not be a political issue. It's a matter of survival.
