I remember when Fox News was trying to make it sound like Portland Oregon was a smoldering wreck. I have family there--Dad was like, "what protests?" and Jake was like "Oh yeah, I drove past it; there's a block or two where there are some broken windows and graffiti; the rest of downtown is fine.
what’s genuinely wild about all this is that we have people on tv talking about LA as this apocalyptic hellhole they must invade with military force and I’m here and I haven’t seen shit all day, not even an abnormal number of helicopters

I drove to D&D tonight, I’m just hanging out! it’s fine!

Went to the 50501 protest in Morristown yesterday. I would guess about 60 or 70 people showed up, which I think is a pretty good turnout, and passer-by response struck me as 2/3 to 3/4 positive--both very good for this area.

It isn't okay to send undocumented people to a gulag without a trial. It is also not okay to send citizens to a gulag without a trial. Trump is doing the first and wants to do the second.

Never again is now.
I don’t know how to convince family members that this is a true thing he said. It’s so outlandish they don’t believe it, or think it must be out of context and we have TDS
Trump on sending American citizens to prison in El Salvador:

“I call them homegrown criminals…We want to do it. I would love to do that.”

It sounds like Cory Booker has been doing an amazing job and I hope other Democratic Senators are taking notes, because since the Republicans won't stop Trump's all-out assault on the Constitution, we're all better off when the Senate is completely gummed up with filibusters.

I got a laser printer. Thanks to youtube videos I set it up successfully both in WiFi Direct mode (where the printer also acts as the WiFi network) and and connected to the house WiFi.
Then I did it again, and the WiFi Direct address/pwd is stable, yay! Quick connection at conventions!

Great violin lesson today--I didn't have a lot of time to practice this week so I thought I would concentrate on something I could do in short bursts, so I memorized the Etude I had been working on.
My teacher was very pleased; it was much easier to pay attention to his suggestions about bowing.

I have continued my walking, and added a backpack, with gradually increasing weight. Today I upped it from 15 to 18 pounds, and walked for an hour, covering about 3 miles.
More than usual, because no hike tomorrow.
I'm keeping up the squats and stand-on-one-foots and counter push-ups too.

Working on learning an Etude by heart. This one is at least reasonably melodic.

There is a book out called Careless People which Meta and thus FB are trying to suppress. I'm not going to tell you to get it or not get it but I will say it would be a thumb in the eye for FB if it caught on, and it might be worth checking it out and seeing if it is something that appeals.

I got two paper maps and a compass today with an adjustable offset for magnetic vs true north. I feel very old-school hiker/canoer right now.

Flying east across 3 time zones coincided with the "spring forward" part of the idiocy that is Daylight Savings Time, so that now I have no idea what time it is AND half the clocks in the house are wrong.

I'm an American Jew, and I have spent considerable time studying Jewish history. I feel safer in a world in which demonstrators on behalf of the Palestinian people are free to express their views, not one in which guys who sieg heil at rallies claim they are protecting me.

More on cheap camping food--the dehydrated butternut squash soup rehydrated very well, with just boiling water poured over it in a thermos. Needs more flavor; I will try oven roasting the squash instead of boiling it before pureeing next time. I will also track how much water is lost in drying!

Making cheap food for a camping trip, (well, in the experimentation stage now) and the lentils that I cooked and dehydrated appear to be cooking up beautifully at a simmer, with the first dumplings I have ever made plumping up atop them.
Taste will tell, but this experiment looks successful.

*lifts hood* Ohhhh, that’s your problem right there. You needed a normal deregulation Republican regime, but somebody installed the unhinged toddler Caligula regime instead. Ooh, yeah, that’s a problem. *sucks teeth* Fix it? No, no, you’re gonna need a complete rebuild and it’s gonna be expensive.
J.P. Morgan econs on Trump’s latest are “increasingly concerned that the policy mix may tilt into an unintentionally far less business-friendly stance. The sustained 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico set to start this weekend is materially different than the tariff increases built into our baseline.”

I went to the store Saturday found black pants, a black long-sleeved shirt, and a black chenille cardigan, all on sale; got out for about $40.
They will be useful for funerals and an amateur orchestra I'm in, and also I wore them today because perfect time to try them out.
The cardigan is very soft.

Those who disrespect Carter's passing don't deserve respect. When they pass, we should raise the flag to full staff, make chocolate cake with whipped cream, and break out some Martinelli's for toasts.

With luck, we'll have some leftover fireworks from the 4th.

Then we forget them entirely.

I should practice violin. Trying to persuade myself to get up and go do it.

I tell you what; I'll go do it right this minute and come back and tell you when I'm done.
