Bookbinding (novels and journals), plus editing and formatting textblocks of my favorite open source novels. My Etsy shop name is CGMBookworks and my website is CGMBookworks.com. The rest of my time goes to teaching piano and studying Vedic astrology
I'm very pleased with how these turned out. Given that the original cover art for Pride and Prejudice involved a peacock, I think this cloth is a good match for that theme. #bookbinding

Here's "The Road to Oz" textblock. The illustrator, John R. Neill, got a little carried away with the ink in this book. Took some work to turn blobs of black back into line drawings. #Bookbinding

My first set of signatures for poetry! Robert Louis Stevenson's "A Child's Garden of Verses." I went digging and came up with illustrations from three different artists in early editions.

Just wrapped up the "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" textblock. Getting a clean version of the artwork has taken many days. #Bookbinding

Just starting a blog to go with my website, with much trepidation. Here's one of my first attempts from "The Hound of the Baskervilles"--talking about the work that goes into restoring vintage illustrations. #bookbinding

Behind the Scenes: Incorporating Illustrations into Classic Novel Textblocks CGM Bookworks
Including original illustrations in a printable textblock sounds simple—just scan, drop, and print, right? In reality, it's a delicate and labor-intensive

Having learned a lot more about using Pixlr, I'm reworking the illustrations of all of my Oz books. It's a bit of a process, but I love the results. #Bookbinding

I've been indulging in my inclination to complicate things. I found some minor errors in my "Wizard of Oz" textblock, so I went in to correct them. I then realized that I now know how to improve some of the pictures, so I started doing that. A week later I'm finally done. #bookbinding

Textblock editing, always a fun way to spend the afternoon. Although little things like this are very time consuming.

After days of battle with an uncooperative book publishing software, I finally went back to my basic method and finished the textblock for Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. Several people have been asking me to get this done, so here it is.

Finally getting The House at Pooh Corner up on Etsy. This and Winnie-the-Pooh are my most in demand books. Since I don't have the time to make many of them, I've added these textblocks to my Etsy store for aspiring bookbinders.

A journal of woodland creatures for spring. Cutting the fabric to get a maximum number of cute animals wasted a lot of the cloth!

Textblocks for 8 public domain novels off to the printers - $$$. I wish I could do my printing on my home printer, but it just wears out too fast. Before I put a set of signatures up on my Etsy site, I always print it out and bind it, doing one more check of everything along the way.

I just had a revelation about structuring textblocks for novels. I don't need to worry about orphan lines! I've started examining paperbacks. Orphan lines all over the place. So, as long as I avoid the cardinal sin of leaving a widow line at the top of the page, things should look okay.

Here are samples of my latest textblock for L. Frank Baum's Oz books -- "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz." Now back to my ongoing battle to create textblocks for miniature books of several fairy tales, not an easy project.

As a student of Stoicism, I've been wanting to make my own books. I started with "The Golden Sayings" because it's a fairly easy one to edit. These signatures only took three days. Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" is a work in progress, but oh those footnotes!

A friend commissioned a set of Winnie-the-Pooh books. So, naturally, I decided to combine three techniques that I'm not that great at yet -- wrap around spine labels, quarter binding and windows. I always seem to go for maximum stress, but they are finished!

Just finished preformatted signatures for Ozma of Oz, the third book in L. Frank Baum's Oz series. So many gorgeous illustrations in these books!

This is my two-volume version of Dracula. This story is told via a series of journal entries, letters, and other documents. I've always wished that there was a different font for each person, just to keep track of what is going on. And then I discovered bookbinding . . .
