The temptation to keep fighting for you is strong. But the vet tells us that while you’re still strong and active now, keeping the fight going will just prolong your suffering. And I’ve seen that happen with others. I guess that if we really love you, we wouldn’t, SHOULDN’T let you suffer.

I lost my job. Ran out of emergency funds because I swore I’d rather do that than compromise on your food and vet care. And then we reached the point where I had to compromise because I had nothing left.

And then late last year, we finally did. It was scary. We thought it was cancer. Or a flesh-eating bacteria.

Everything was a trial w/ Worf. Neutering him, bringing him to the vet, etc. It was only in his literal last few weeks that he allowed me to carry him, and I promised to continue caring for his kind as he passed in my arms.

We were overloaded by 2022 & couldn't rescue Varis from her "owner" but bit the bullet last Jan. after seeing her swollen face. She recovered, was returned to her "home", but she came back the next day to our shelter.

Carbo wandered into our neighborhood last June with an eye injury that had "healed" on its own. Despite being one-eyed, he bounced back and showed his loving side. But was killed by a gang member in our neighborhood.

Chopsuey, our honorary cat, started our journey. She loved running around our garden. When her treatments stopped working, she'd just spend the day lying amidst the flowers. That first attracted the community cats to our place.
