Thing about librarians is they can find anything! @karenbmccoy.bsky.social had all the answers I gave ten years ago (Ten, years, man! TEN. *Ten* years (it's the law)) as we chatted about SCOT'S EGGS

It's the same #FridayReads as last week. Not because I'm not LOVING it. Just because it's quite long and I'm hammering out a draft, plus doing the bidding of the baby-faced assassins* is taking 2hrs a day. Still better than being oor Nic dealing with Boris, mind.

*aka physiotherapists.

I've got a lot to do in the next seven weeks, but then . . .
@janicehallett.bsky.social, @dranniegray.bsky.social, Claire Askew, Marion Todd, @michellechouinard.bsky.social, Ian McEwan, @jennycolgan.bsky.social and me are hitting the couch for Christmas. #FridayReads

In a month. A month from today. I'll take care of the whole thing, Johnny. All you gotta do is show up.

You don't have to get the film reference to come along, eat cake, drink wine and buy a book (doesn't have to be *my* book) but it is the full moon that night . . .

I've been writing a long time. I've finally done what it takes to write a blog fairly titled "Citizen Sausage". I'm very proud.

Blog tour dates and topics posted for December's SCOT'S EGGS

Dru Ann Love is a BIG deal up here at the cozy end of the mystery community and she really, *really* likes my new book.

"fast-paced and well-written mystery where nothing is as it seems ... one of the best books in the series

SCOT'S EGGS is out Dec 2 (US & UK) from @severnhouse.bsky.social

Birthday books from Wednesday. It's decisions, decisions this #FridayReads. Also, here's why "what sort of books do you like?" gets nothing from me but a long silence.

Winters CA, pop. 7,000 (53% Latino (many visa and greencard holders)). An estimated 100-150 citizens showed up to do what it wasn't safe for over half of Winters residents to do. Even though it would have been legal. One inflatable cow!

How incapable am I of having written this? Let me count the ways. But I get title-envy, right? AS THE WICKED WATCH, Tamron Hall's brilliant and brutal debut about the murder of a Black child on Chicago's South Side for #FridayReads

No #Caturday cats here; I'm a pillow.

Two timelines - 1990 Kuwait and 2015 Texas - and the grinding tension of what you know is coming in both of them and when they crash into each other too . . . This is a fabulous #FridayReads from @pujaguha.bsky.social .

Ooft. I'm reading Linda Castillo's AFTER THE STORM this fair #FridayReads. Which is great. But once I've read *it*, I've only got book seventeen, RAGE, left. I'm trying to keep that for the Christmas holiday. But I know myself . . .

I'm giving the keynote (after lunch, soothing, soundtrack to a wee siesta) at the otherwise dynamic and sparkling
@capitolcrimes.bsky.social con this year.

If you're registered, waddaya wanna hear? I've got such a generic title I can talk about anything. Maybe not recipes- Wait! They'd work too.

Rachel has her own clean, comfortable bed and is also allowed to sleep (like how would we stop her) on her pick of five couches and five armchairs in this house, but she prefers to curl up with Correspondence Anaylsis in Practice and The Study of Plant Disease Epidemics. #Caturday

Not every day you wake up to discover that your beloved grandfather, who survived six years of Stalag 383 on non-compliance rations, because he refused to work for the Nazi war machine, was part of a major terrorist organisation. #ANTIFA

Physiotherapy on #Caturday. Knee on cushions, ice on injury, cat on chest.

Faith in humanity taken a bit of a beating? I prescribe @louberney.bsky.social's DARK RIDE, three times a day with food. #FridayReads. (My agent was on the judging panel for the Steel Dagger and sent the winner to me - thank you, @literarylisa.bsky.social!

This anthology by LGBTQ+ crimewriters, inspired by queer icons, is my delicious treat of a #FridayReads. Bravo!

How do we keep going in the between times? Some of us ADORE the between times. Living quietly, over at Criminal Minds today. Plus event links, @desertsleuths.bsky.social and @capitolcrimes.bsky.social, and @netgalley.bsky.social news too.

Reality is utter shite & we need to work harder than ever. But, for respite, I made a fictional world where a ragtag band of misfits love each other & never stop the snark. SCOT'S EGGS, book seven of the Last Ditch trilogy, is up on NetGalley for early review.

See this is why I can't answer the question "What sort of thing do you read?". Either @writelarrywrite.lawrenceallanwrites.com
's third Jimmy Cooper or Rabih Alamaddine's . . . less easy to pin down than a cozy noir, actually. Also, both these guys are nailing the headshot. #FridayReads
August 22, 2025 at 5:57 PM
I haven't got a pic of the book I'm reading, and it's hardly hot news that it's Linda Castillo again anyway, so how about this for #FridayReads?
August 15, 2025 at 5:30 PM
STILL SEE YOU EVERYWHERE by Lisa Gardner, for #FridayReads. Might not have devoured it quite so greedily if I'd known the fourth one in the series isn't out till later this month.
