My brother actually checked out the original movie from the video store because he recognized it from the cartoon.

That was the one time my dad had him return a movie after seeing what was in it, lol

In fairness he was the best character in that game.

Donald Duck... depends on the version, really.

Writer: "Okay, so for this scene we want to make a joke about Bowser's ego by showing he paints himself looking incredibly buff and handsome. Now we just need a 2D artist who can draw something like that..."

Dude at the studio who doesn't want to share their search history: "...I might know a guy."

Reminds me of this but in reverse:

Sorry to hear you're getting burnt out on this one, but it's understandable. There is at least one REALLY good route on this side of the flowchart that I really hope you get to, but I wouldn't blame you for taking a break for now after you finish this route.

The best thing that can be said for it is that it does a LOT to improve one of the weakest characters from the first game. As for the rest of it, eh..........

Feels like it'd be like going from this to this:

You know what game I played that same year where I got softlocked on about three times yet never heard much guff about online? God of War: Ragnarok, a supposed GOTY contender. Mind you I was playing the PS4 version so maybe that's a factor, and it was obviously the more impressive game, but still.
October 19, 2025 at 7:26 AM
I mean... what are we considering technical issues? I'll certainly concede that on average Pokemon SV runs way worse than it ought to, but during my whole playtime of it I never hit a true gamebreaking bug. Not something brag-worthy, but I've had worse luck with more technically impressive games.

It just feels like everyone is rushing to put everyone else in their personal "bad guy box". If you don't like these games, you're a hater. If you like them, you're an apologist. You're going to get attacked regardless of your take and there's little tolerance for nuance.
October 19, 2025 at 7:10 AM
That just makes it more frustrating though when I feel like the games we got in 2023 actually did a lot to bring me back around on the series but I can't say that without being told "You like all this slop, you're what's wrong with the fandom!"
October 19, 2025 at 7:09 AM
I mean I actually more or less agree with you on the general stagnation of the series from Gens 6 through 8. That is something that happened to the series and was where I personally was getting close to falling off of it.
October 19, 2025 at 7:08 AM
I will say there's definitely a balance that could be struck and they shouldn't be off the hook in some aspects. I just think when someone says something like "We should have a Pokemon game as big as Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding 2!" I'm like "But do I WANT that?"
October 19, 2025 at 6:34 AM
I mean, you're not entirely wrong, but... I kind of like PS2 and PS3 games? I won't say what's here couldn't be beefed up to more modern standards while still keeping the core of the product intact, but I do wonder if that beefing up wouldn't come with more bloat.
October 19, 2025 at 6:32 AM
I was feeling a lot of burnout on Pokemon from XY through SwSh, and PLA and SV, for all the issues, brought enough new to the table to genuinely revitalize my interest in the games again. I can believe people would be turned off by their issues but folks claiming "they're not trying" are full of it.

He's not Tom if he's not at least a bit of a shithead.
October 19, 2025 at 3:35 AM
Honestly fair. It's a bit of a bummer when you find someone blocked you when you don't know what you did to earn their ire, but there are too many people online to interact with them all anyway. One person preemptively shutting you down isn't the end of the world.
October 18, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Too often we see people try and determine what is/isn't going to be a "classic" within a week of release.
September 22, 2025 at 1:33 AM
You know a game that people shit on online because it didn't "blow up" online? Sea of Stars. I played it when it dropped on PS+, fucking loved it. Kind of forgot about it for a while but bought it on sale the other week to replay it and try the DLC. Still fucking amazing, GOTY 2023.
September 21, 2025 at 6:45 PM
We've gotten too used to a game always being there in the background of our lives. If we're not playing it, we're talking about it online, or watching the 200th's Let's Play of it, or whatever, and it kind of undermines the joy of replaying it like a year or two later and remembering why we love it.
